I wanna try a phily steak sandwich to see what all the fuss is about. We get versions over here but i don't think they take as much pride in them as the philly-tonians.

I wanna try a philly steak sandwich to see what all the fuss is about. We get versions over here but i don't think they take as much pride in them as the Philadelphians. Fixed. Even then each place in Philly does them differently the two most venerated, pat's and geno's, are okay. (Steve's Jim's, Chi's, etc., are better.) Oddly enough is an excellent taqueria next door cranking out hand pressed tortillas next store. Roast Pork with rabe is usually the better sandwich from most steak sandwich joints. The crunch and the snap of the roll is super important, so there are kinds of bakery alliances between shops, within the city and across the river in Jersey. Up through the 90s sabotage amongst shops was not unknown, and their respective protection/ peacemaking having to be handled by each's respective mob wardens.

There are banh mi shops all over Toronto, including one near us that we get takeout from fairly regularly, but which I doubt is very trad, but who cares when it's as delicious as it is. They missed out on the hot turkey or hot roast beef sandwich on there, but that could be because they're typically open-face and are eaten with a knife and fork. Definitely a Canadian specialty. That looks fabulous. The hot roast pork sandwich is a thing in some regions of the UK - I saw it a lot in the Midlands. It's a glorious thing when done well - the only time I'll happily eat low-grade processed sliced white bread.

Pork shoulder is one of those massively underrated cuts. It's as tasty as lamb.

I always ask for a YEE-ROW and I always get a good sandwich. so, If I'm mispronouncing it, at least they know what I'm talking about.
the older I get, the more I'm convinced that the B.L.T. is the king of all sandwiches.

You know what I like? A nice HAM AND CHEESE or a roast beef and mustard.....simple, classic, delicious.
A bit like me really.

Year-oh and yes. San Jose has the largest Vietnamese population next to Houston and my son and I pick up sandwiches at a Vietnamese banh mi sandwich place all the time. There was a Vietnamese immigrant who came to the Bay Area and opened a hair cutting styling school in the city north of me, Hayward. It was his experience that that profession was a way to quickly ramp up when Vietnamese came here. Thus, a large part of the Bay Area's hair cutting places and salons and nail places are owned by Vietnamese. The two places I've gone in the past 20 years were both owned by Vietnamese folks. Yeah, the Vietnamese do good sandwiches. Maybe it's the French influence. One of the best I ever had was in laos but similar to Vietnamese ones. Sensational it was. I scoffed two in a row.

in the early 80's I lived in a neighborhood with a thriving Cuban place. I loved the way they'd squish the sandwiches between these ironing board looking things.damn, those were good sandwiches.

Nature's perfect food. Thank you, Brits for inventing it, and everyone else for improving it. And you're welcome for us west coasters adding avocado to make a good thing even better. Really, an encyclopedia should include a few hundred variations at minimum. It's limitless, really. Multiply by all the ingredients you can combine and all the kinds of bread you can use. For me it's a hard roll (biting through needs to challenge your tooth at least a little), and at least some vegetable matter. Beyond that, there are many ways you can go with it - all delicious (though of course the only 'meat' slices I'll do are fake ones).

I thought about getting a panini press at one time, but decided I didn't need another piece of junk in the kitchen and how many times would I really use it. I pride myself on my creative sandwich making. At one point between jobs, I mentioned to my family that maybe I'd open a sandwich place and they just laughed. I'm not really an entrepreneur, so I kinda dropped it. But it would be nice to have a "Home of the Sloop Sandwich" or "King Sloop Sandwich" shop. I can see it now. . .
