They're a rugby league team i think. I think that code is a bit more exciting. A good thing about England is no matter what the code is, its just "Rugby", yet you just know what they mean judging by who they are and where they're from. I knew John was referring to League because he's from Whitehaven, and you were referring to Union because that's what's large in Ireland (I do have two Ireland RL jerseys though which are things of beauty). In Australia if someone says "Rugby" without the differentiation I assume they're an Australian Rules fan or a Victorian (one and the same really) Didn't know we had a RL team. I'm assuming it's a few plastic paddys and a few Irish that play in the UK.

There's no country in the world where League is more popular than Union. Australia no? Yes, League is by far the most popular code now in Aus.

There are a few Australians who qualify through their parents or grandparents but you'd be surprised the amount of Irish playing in the Super League.

The english cricket team captain was/is Irish, nothing surprises me in this regard.

I will say Union is not as entertaining to watch as the game I grew up with. It's become about set pieces, penalties, defence and forwards going through the phases. Whereas in the past there was far more inventive back play.

Whereas in the past there was far more inventive back play. I watch a lot of Mitre 10 Cup, which is New Zealand club rugby, and there's a lot of the running rugby that makes the game look attractive, but at an International level you don't see that anymore. And as if they've felt the vibe, the breakfast radio show on here at work has started talking about Union and how its becoming boring to watch and stagnating!

So rugby (Union) is fucking she-ite. Nuff said. ...Well no. The appeal today is more about seeing two teams of immense power going at each other hammer and tongs. It's a spectacle of the physical. It's still the second most entertaining team sport to watch on the planet, so it's not doing too badly.

Rugby league is clearly the more entertaining of the two codes, though it's not often I watch either. There's not really a local bias here because I was forced to play rugby all through school, too, and I was bloody tiny back then. I hated every minute, playing against gigantic freakish 20 stone teenagers in snow and hail.
