I do love to drive during the 2-5am zone, if you are on the side of the road I'm your guy. I loved entering or leaving NYC at this time, 287, 78, 444/Garden State clear and empty, hitting the tunnels, the city rising up before you, where only a few minutes before it was lit and looming. It's one of the few times I'll indulge in Springsteen. A lifetime ago I had a classic moment transporting some Tibetan monks in the early morn to a birthday all packed into my '69 Roadrunner blasting "Born To Run" for the ninth time thru jersey City as they shrieked the chorus joyfully, faces beaming as we become airborne where 440 and 78 pretzel together, then quiet awe hitting the tunnel and emerging in a still Soho, trundling slowly through the quiet city, as though in suspension.

Darkness as in dark thoughts. Yes, but they come more readily at night? Yes. I think it is because of alcohol consumption. I never get hang overs but I think what others experience in the morning after drinking, my body is doing during the night. So when I awake during the night, I am in the middle of it. I know it's gonna pass after a few hours but your mind spiralling down can be a scary experience even if you know that. Some months ago I found a solution that sometimes works. Next to my bed I have a sudoku pocket book ' diabolic'. So mostly, when it happens, I'll do one or two of those to 'reset' my mind.
