i can't stand the vocal style of A, and i'm certainly not going to endure 9 minutes of it. likewise, i have no intention of sitting through 8 minute's of wilson's neo-PROG.

Ah, modern music! A solid minute of good ideas stretched out past the point of boredom.
A's ideas are better, and she's a modern artist that occasionally makes my ears perk up. I usually perk 'em back down after a minute or so, but I'll take what I can get.

Inauspicious start alert! It's hard to treat Lana seriously, because you pretty much have a solid idea of what the song is going to do before you've heard it, her manoeuvres (did I spell that right without googling?) are performed within very narrow boundaries. But there is quite a lot going on under the surface, like a duck with too much eyeliner, and too much money. At heart it's a pleasant and sunny west coast folk song, but it's dragged out with Tunng-style indietronica and some quite nice but also quite unnecessary fuzzy guitar. Doesn't feel like it does enough to deserve over 9 minutes.
Throwing prog at us from the opening tie seems a little unfair, too. Is this what Coan meant when he said he was going full BCB canon on us, that he was going to channel Rother? In fairness, it reminds me a little of Radiohead from the start, but when the strings n' shit kick in it's more the kind of bloated ELO cap that influenced them. I was expecting worse when I saw the name, but this sub Barclay James Harvest nonsense isn't getting my vote.

I made it through all of A, not B.
Talk about a battle of attrition.

Lana Del Rey is a one-trick pony. I kind of like the trick, but....I dunno, out of all you had to choose from, from the whole history of recorded music, you went for THAT?!?
I could say the same for the Steven Wilson thing too. Isn't he a modern-day prog gimp? that's all I know of him. That's enough to put me off, but I DID listen, and actually the song itself isn't radically different from what ol' Lana is doing there - slow paced, minor key, bit aimless, sleepy vocals.
SO - a disappointing start but I'm more drawn to

I wasn't that grabbed by either, but I do think the melody of the Wilson track is stronger and more interesting. The long Floydian instrumental section adds nothing really, and actually detracts.
It probably needs the votes so.. B

The ambition of A is ok. Not what I expected. All the monosynth portamento solo stuff in the middle was really amateur though, and a nasty distraction. I’m not keen on her voice either. It’s too ‘light’ for my taste.
I like B. I am wary of anything too Prog or Floyd-like, but I find myself wanting to listen to this again, so,

Yeah, these certainly aren't a million miles away from each other, are they. They both have elements i like and bits i don't like as much. SW's vocals are not my thing, Whereas LDR's are. I don't mind the strings in B, but i like the clav/synth thing in A more. So overall, this is an ...

I actually liked A, very much up my street. Could have done with a couple of minutes less but there was enough going on in the background to never feel bored. Unlike B, I'm afraid.

Lana is a one trick pony but I like the trick. She's done better but B didn't make any impression on me at all.

Listening to both of those songs in a row is an experience I hope to not have to repeat ever again in my life, THAT's for sure.
I guess the LDR is a bit less gross.
