Kokoko
An ugly sound that drills in hard. A strong whiff of an updated Remain In Light about it. I like it enough I suppose.
Duke
Prefer Shaw’s vocals, something a bit declamatory about Duke’s that distances. Love the cool, etched music though. Powerfully funky in the best way (ie not strident, smoother).

I'm quite conflicted here as I love Doris Duke but maybe this pick digs a little too deep. Ghetto-funk workouts are not her thing and she isn’t getting her incredibly talented teeth into this one at all. A was pretty good. I’m going to listen to it again. Yes,

I won't dance. You can't make me. Pause this at 1.20, to check out B
Doris is a name I know – alleluja! - and while this is too funked up in that Seventies way to really qualify as soul (although it's very reminiscent of what Esther Philips was doing around that time) she has some great soul chops. Seven minutes flew - or rather slinked and swayed - on by. No need to go back to A – not that I hated it: I kind of admired it from afar, but it didn't engage the way the sound of Doris's voice did.

A is a great pick here, but the intense groove of B wins this one.

I've never heard either of these.
A is very interesting, but B is fabulous

I like A. It's very different. B is generic 'pulp fusion', which I also like.
A swings it, just for its novelty.

I've listened to both a few times now, and as much as it hurts me to choose i'm going with B. Apologies to A, a fine pick. B is just pushing my pleasure zones a little more. (The video for A though is something else though, hot and freaky and gorgeous)

I like A but thought it stretched itself a bit too thin. B is more up my street.

A: DARKNESS FISH 8 B: G 11
Darkness Fish is to be commended for his sportsmanship in the way he voted or rather abstained. Sorry I didn't do the same, I'm a cunt.

A fine pick there, Fishy, i enjoyed that. Hope there are more like that, rather than dour European hipster types doing "Soundscapes From Der Electro lab und Chainsaw Workshop".
