Odd enough to get the nod here..Vote B
Never have understood why Mitchell is considered such a big deal..

B sucked donkey balls. I'd suggest that to the songwriter, but I think he would actually do it.
A easy.

I find the Russell track excruciating. It tries too hard and leaves me cold. Never have understood why Russell is considered such a big deal I exaggerate slightly. But, as much as I admire his eclecticism, and his bold eccentricity, I always seem to find myself wondering where the song is. A is probably about my least favorite song from one of my favorite Joni albums and it does meander a bit, but it spends more time on point, all-told, and Jaco's melodic bass is probably at its best, and least showy, with Joni.

I'm allergic to Joni. Sorry.
The Arthur Russell thing is like schoolkids making a noise with percussion and hooters in fifth-year music class, or at least the bit I heard was. Kind of interesting. He's an odd dude isn't he?

A is beautiful, magical, transportive. It's reduced me to tears.
"I see something of myself in everyone"
B is somebody just arsing about with the window open.

I love Hejira (the album) but not so much the title track. From previous comments I was pretty sure that I was going to hate B, but, far from it, I enjoyed it a LOT. Much to my own surprise

I didn't dislike the Mitchell track, but wasn't drawn into it either and got bored of it long before the end. I don't want to be too damning of it because I can appreciate it's the kind of thing you need to live with and slowly fall in love with its subtleties..it's not a youtube immediate gratification type hit that's for sure. It reminded me quite a lot of the last Talk Talk album (yes, I know that came afterwards): wafting, spacious jazzy arrangements, not much in the way of a tune.. I'm not really sure what the Russell track was attempting. All those talky bits just annoyed me, but maybe they are the point..? Good drumming THO'. In truth I'm not sure I "get" either enough to vote for one over the other, so perhaps the fairest thing is to sit this one out. Sorry lads. Abstain.

Personally, I think that anyone who claims to be interested in records and music who hasn't already heard it many times and grown to love it is a bit strange, conside ring it's the title track of one my favourite albums EVER, and by the greatest singer-songwriter of them all .
Not C***'s choice, incidentally.

I love Joni, but I'd've preferred a more concise tune right about now (Car on a Hill, maybe).
That Arthur Russell track is an odd one, but I really dig the harmonies in the arrangement, and those little descending bass licks.

I love Joni and I think it's a great track. I'm going with B because I feel like I should encourage that sort of thing.

I kind of hold a grudge against Joni because I bought Blue, and it's a pile of shite. This is more interesting, G's Talk Talk reference seems pretty apt to me, it's got that jazzy Solid Air kind of slippery feel to it. All about that meandering bass, I guess, which makes it a bit of a meandering track, too. Not particularly reaching far for new tracks to bring to the table either, which is a mark down.
I love Arthur Russell, his fuzzy cello ambience stuff is the stuff of dreams, and his ventures into other musical realms are all pretty successful. I haven't heard this album, I guess he might be rivalling Muslimgauze for the number of posthumous releases by now. It's not much like anything else I've heard by him, this is slightly irritating and feels like some kind of student musical theatre piece. The drums are cool, the horns quite good, but overall it's not too different in its aimlessness from A.
I'll vote B, just because it's a bit odder, and I've abstained once already.
