I kept waiting for B to go somewhere. I think it's still waiting for the light to change.

You can recognise Arthur Russell pretty quickly - I don't know of any other artist who puts the cello right at the centre like that. It works, it's odd. But it doesn't really move me much.
A is an absolute stormer from The Upsetter's early days - like AR the sound is immediately identifiable but - dare I say - a ton more fun

This is easily the best Russell track I've heard in these things, though his repeated appearances continue to bewilder me. You'd think something that wildly eclectic would be right up my alley, but there's so little personality stamp on it despite the easy identifiability. I almost want to throw it a vote, the only time I've been so tempted that I can think of, but A is just so gritty, thrilling, and downright odd. He's a giant.

B is worth playing and not bad in my book, but I found his singing in the high notes (maybe that's what skope called vocal aerobics) a tad irritating. This and the fact that there's not much of a song puts it miles behind the gorgeous Upsetters track. I had not heard it before but it provided immediate pleasure.

A is great; B is also great, in a weird sort of way. There's something that's very earwormy about it for me (like I said in the R1 matchup, I've been on a Russell binge quite a bit this year). So B for me.

I enjoyed both, but reggae without vocals doesn't do much for me.

I like neither. I would never listen to A out of choice. B's vocal style is nauseating, but I like the cello.
Which is least worst? B

A palatable Russell track, but it just doesn't seem to go anywhere..You keep waiting for it to do something more interesting with the instrumentation..It doesn't..
Not the Upsetters track i'd have gone with, but it's enough to take this one..Vote A

I find the Russell track intriguing. It does have a slightly hypnotic quality, but it feels unfinished or underdeveloped ( was it originally recorded as a demo?).
I'm not as wowed on the Upsetters track as some, I find it good rather than great. I think an additional element, some soloing or just Perry barking out some mad stuff, would've made it more interesting for me. But enjoyable for sure.

an easy A the other song doesn't really do anything for me - it might make a difference if it did. I actually like the way the guy's voice seems on the verge of doing Yogi Bear or something in places.
