Wow, this is tough. I like Megadeth, but this is far from their best. I don't know if I can vote for a group called Mellow Candle and certainly don't know if I can vote for a song called "Sheep Season." Seems too much like a night out with Skope.

I'm going to go for Megadeth too, not because I think it's any good, but - like John - I don't really like the other one. It starts well enough but they turn everything up after a while and it gets into unpalatable PROG territory.

the megadeth track wasn't as offensive as i thought it might be. in fact, i was surprised at how commercial it was. not my cup of tea, though.
i like mellow candle a lot. this selection isn't one of my favourites of theirs but given what it's up against, it's an easy choice for me to make.

Yeah, the Mellow Candle one goes on a bit, and isn't one of my favorite tracks from the album, and I don't even like the album that much, and the Megadeth is fine for what it is.
It's still an easy B for me - just suits my taste so much better. I don't think any Preludin problems are the result of not enough Megadeth or too much Mellow Candle.

B is horrible until the harmonies kick in in the chorus. I’m a sucker for harmonies. It’s a bit Prog. Might not be in 4/4.
But A is brilliant. Every moment, great video- I notice that mellow candle couldn’t even be bothered to make one, so there’s no way they’re getting my vote.

Playing B right after A was a relief like taking a stone from the shoe.
I love this Mellow Candle track (and the album). Obviously my sensitivity for prog traces is not as good as JC's or fonz's because I found none. It's got a beautiful melody, a nice set of harmonies and some gorgeous instrumental parts in the last half. True that it goes on a bit, probably more noticeable because of the long fadeout, going for 1 minute vs the usual 10-15 sec. In any case a clear

I don't think either of these are very good. Abstain.

B by virtue of not having Dave Mustaine on it. I like yer meat & taters rock as much as the next guy but I've had a belly full of Dave.

A was just too Spinal Tap for me.
Everyone can fuck off with B! It was lovely - full of magical little chord changes and winter night harmonies. Kate Bush was obviously listening.

Gotta pick one, eh?
B has some nice sounds, but it’s hard to find a song in there. But that’ll have to do here.

If A were instrumental, I don't know... I like everything except Mustaine's voice and it could have won hands down against most submissions.
But...
Mellow Candle's Swaddling Songs is a rare thing - a band I discovered decades after the event, with a lone all-killer no-filler album I'm still totally in love with.
B
(and it's not my pick, but certainly could have been)

I'm probably one of the few who thinks that this cup could well be improved with a bit of metal, but why this particular piece? Even if you had to pick some Megadeth "Peace Sells" is just as obvious but less annoying. Perhaps this is my punishment for not picking any black metal. Black Cilice would've beaten that Sam and Dave number in the next round, I'm sure of it.
I do have this Mellow Candle album, but I must admit I don't care much for it, it does get a bit proggy and rockist at times. I prefer Clodagh Simonds' latter-day work with the more austere and stripped-back Fovea Hex, but even that can be a bit hard work a times. Anyway, despite this veering a bit too far off the folk highway into dangerous progtastic bass flexing woods, it's an easy winner against Mustaine's lumpen slop.
