Again, I'm left wtih the feeling of appreciating Mitchell's craft, and recognizing that she is a genius... I just get no pleasure from listening to her music. Sigh...
The Cheatham track could do with being about half as long, but I quite like the groove.

the first one is snappy but, come on guys. I'll take another green pill and vote for B. it's not one of my favorites but it's, you know, personal songwriting. I like to get down on Saturday Night as much as the next guy but I'm getting too old for that shit. I'll stay home, listen to Joni and clean my gun. thank you just the same.

Well-said, Snee.
I like A just fine, but if B's short length and general snappiness and modest production (by the Croz) ain't enough to please the Joni-haters, well, I just don't know what to say.
Great track from the second-best (imo) Joni album which, to my ears, has none of the qualities people here are dismissive of.
A has a nice groove, and you can dance to it, but it's a whole hell of a lot more conventional.

A veers towards being a slight cliche of this era of jazz funk, with its 'lover man/Saturday Night' tropes, but gets away with it because the groove and playing is nailed down with such economical confidence. It was certainly a big tune of its time that I remember well and I'm pleasantly surprised to see it here. I've dipped my toes in and out of Joni over the years ( which sounds vaguely obscene!) without getting a firm foothold. I do like my folk to be on the spectral, spooky side ( think Linda Perhacs) so the beguiling, mysterious nature of this was very much up my street. Perhaps this album might be the way to go in terms of reacquinting myself with her, I certaintly prefer it to the waftiness of the previous Joni selection.
This is tough because both tracks speak to a different part of my musical personality, but I'm going B

I'm not too enthusiast of the first two Joni albums, but this specific track is one that I hve always liked.

Is G claiming that this isn't his pick? Who the hell else would pick this? Oh, hang on, I know this, someone sampled this fairly recently didn't they? "I like to party, everybody does". I hate that. I don't like this. I doubt that comes as a surprise to anyone. Just too far into the horrible cheesy side of disco for my tastes.
But does that mean I'm going to vote for Joni, another safe and boring preludin pick? I can't abstain again, I've done that twice this round already. I have to say, even if I didn't know this was Joni, I would vote against it. Its folky nature is much closer to my comfort zone, but I hate the vocals here, the "I am the very model of a modern major-general"-ness of it all, it's making me wince, it makes my teeth hurt.
