A is JC dancing around his flat, pulling shapes and shouting at the world.
B puts me in a safer environment, but not one that i'd like to spend too much time in.

More in tune with the controlled minimalism of Young Marble Giants, than the top notch reggae of Romeo..Good match..Vote A

God, I love that YMG track. Apologies to whoever chose B, which is a fine cut, but I can't go against

Not a fan of YMG.
'Chase The Devil' is of course quite marvellous. I'm surprised we haven't seen our old friends 'uninspired' and 'obvious'. There's still time...

A is generally in the "appreciate more than like" category for me, though I've grown to appreciate them more than I used to.
Reggae is not in my wheelhouse, and it's undeniable that a lot of it's samey, but B sounds pretty fresh, at least in the moment. I think my lack of knowledge in this area is helpful in this particular case, since it's new to me (I've probably heard it before, but don't remember where or when) and I don't know how closely it does or doesn't adhere to the canon.

I never liked YMG and I've tried. I hate the name for some reason.
This is one of Max Romeo's greatest songs. There's a great remake with Ini Kamoze singing along with him too.

I admired the austere, spartan beauty of YMG, while not becoming a big fan. I much preferred the follow up band Weekend as it goes. I couldn't remember this particular track, but I was a bit underwhelmed. It felt undercooked and I started to get bored with its lack of development, It's okay though. I love this track! I don't have a lot to say about it other than it epitomises the appeal of this period of Jamaican music as well as anything. Really liked The Prodigy version of this track too!

Neither track really proving an inspiring cup pick for me. I love Young Marble Giants, but they're hardly an unknown quantity, it feels like a safe taste-police approved track. I bloody love the song, having said that, the sheer simplicity of the spartan backing to gorgeous understated vocals. Sends shivers down me spine, it really does. The Man Amplifier would've been my pick though, I find that song has an unrepressable sexual energy. That's probably just something in my twisted synapses though.
Picking anything else by Max Romeo may have been a braver move, I'm pretty sure this has been used in previous cups, and if not, it's still the blindingly obvious one to pick. The Prodigy used it to much better effect, "In and Out of Space" was probably their finest moment.
No problem, John. Happy to help.

Never felt compelled to explore YMG, but this one was enjoyable enough. B just has more going for it.

A less fine track from a band that never made a mediocre one. I love Alisons's voice, and find the brothers' minimalism a better base for it than the jazzers in Weekend, although I bought all of that band's records as well. As a song, it's a fair way short of Final Day or Eating Noddiemix, but it's still 5.5 / 10
As far as I know, I never heard anything from Mr Rodeo apart from Wet Dream, which I would have thought was the more obvious choice for the aritst. As I may have mentioned before, I have no way of judging JA music other than by my reaction to it: I justy don't know enough about the culture, or rastafari, to make any inforked judgement. That said, this seems pretty generic and repetitive to me. On the whole, I prefer ska. Or calypso. Or weed. Now there's a thought... 4/10

I'm a fan of minimalism, but YMG don't do a lot for me.
The Max Romeo track is just okay enough here...

2 tracks i like here.
Hmmm. Hard to compare them in any meaningful way, as they are so different and appeal in defferent ways. In the end, i think i just like B a bit more.
