whoever picked these two heavyweights will be disappointed to have drawn each other.
i love them both.
i'm going to go with B on the basis that i find it more uplifting.

Both really good, but flawed - A by the military beat that opens it and then underpins the whole thing, and B by overfamiliarity with the groove.
Better singing on A, better arrangement on B. Tough call, but that's my decision. And I might stick with it?

Best pairing yet.
I wasn't familiar with Ernie K. Doe, fun track. A bit of an obvious choice for B but no complaints here as it had been a while since I heard it.
B it is, then.

'Am I The Same Girl?' is a bit too sweet for me. The vocal - especially when it hits the high notes - makes me think of Diana Ross' less palatable/more diva-ish moments. It's a good tune but I'm going to have to give it to
A
which (altho' very familiar to UK ears because of the TV ad of a few years ago) sounds a bit more exciting to me right now.

Kicking off the round with an uninspiring track. Over-familiar because of an advert, but not much to excite me here with a simple/simplistic song with the burbling bass being the only thing to grab my attention. A bit of nothingness.
B's a less familiar song to me, and still fairly far from my wheelhouse. It feels like a better crafted, better sung thing though, and although I'm already running out of things to say about it, it does just about enough.

Good tie to start the round. B is fine enough but I find the singing substandard for a genre that calls for a top class voice. A was a nice surprise and quite a nice pick in spite of those unnecessary military drums at the beginning.

Despite their familiarity, both tracks retain a freshnesss. Both are powered by a great vocal and have a similar joyuousness. But there's a little more sophistication and depth to B as a record. Big apologies to A as it was a great pick.

Ernie K. Doe doesn't get enough love in my book, but B is one of my favorite songs of all time.

Two stellar choices, and a helluva draw for each. I'm going with Ernie K-Doe, though, because it would be against my DNA to not cast my vote for him.

well, the Ernie K. Doe is pretty new to me. If I had heard it too many times in a commercial then it might stand a chance against B which is one of those songs I walk around trying to remember the name of. I've heard it a million times and seldom hear it anymore. thanks to whoever submitted it - I skinned a lot of knees and ate a lot of candy bars to that song. Both are going on the bottom-less playlist for all time.

I never knew there was a vocal version of Soulful Strut! And it's pretty good, so it gets my vote.
