I went through a period of liking that Opeth album.
Yeah the vocals are that daft cookie monster thing but there is something impressive about it.

I wish metal singers didn't use that stupid throaty voice thing; it makes you sound like an idiot, dude, face it. Gah.
There were bits of this tune that perked my ears up, i must admit. The melodic bits were like little stretches of calm sea amongst the storm fronts, and i enjoyed the outro section. But... well, the other parts were like a dentist's drill. Sorry.
B is very enjoyable, a strong Ray Davies influence at work here me thinks. Yeah, gets my vote here.

I like B alright, very pleasant, but A is my favourite metal-and-related band at their very best

I bet the vocalist from Opeth could growl “freedom” to put a Donald Trump fan to shame. This kind of devilry is not generally my thing but since attending a death metal review in a semi-derelict shopping mall in Helsinki the summer before last I sort of get it. I didn’t really like B – it was a touch too saccharine. Yes, a shock vote for
A

One and a half minutes of tuning up and dull stage chat - fuck that. And a live performance, too. Bad start. But then it picks up ... and goes off again. And repeat. I listened to the end, but ultimately I prefer my metal to be black or death, rather than prog. 4/10
I'm not sure what this has to do with Ray Davies. Much better voice, for a start. Reminds me more of turn of the century US bands like Grandaddy - a good thing in my book. Nice, and all the better for being completely unexpected. 6/10
