Pretty standard stuff from Neil. "Guess I Better Go" is pleasant enough, new to me and I doubt I'll ever seek it out. No real competition here.

i really appreciate B digging so deep. it's the sort of thing i normally lap up, but unfortunately this does nothing for me. it's like waiting for a bus that never comes.
i'm peeved that i have to go with the canon once again.

The Condello track is ok, but it's completely forgettable. And either it's new to me, or I've heard it and forgotten it.
I've been listening to Neil a lot over the past year, and I love Neil... but this is a pretty dull choice for the cup, and I can't get excited about it in this context.
Sigh... I guess I'll go with B, simply for choosing something outside of the canon.

I love both of these. Both pull off something quite impressive - they start with good songs with somewhat conventional structures then perform them in such a way that they burst from the speakers without relying on sonic trickery. Really marvelous guitar playing on both - full of personality and the players' unique stamp.
A of course veers closer to the canon, but both veer really directly to my pleasure center. Shame they have to go up against each other.
B, mainly for being a deeper cut, and also new(er) to me.

That Condello thing reminds me of those 'GREATEST HITS OF 1968' cheapo comps - half of it is stuff you've never heard of - and when you hear it, you realise why. Utterly undistinguished.
A
is of course Neil at his very best

Neil ... who? From whence did you find this hidden pearl to share with all of us? I find his rockier stuff shite anyway, as here. Cloying and lumpy.
Ick, B sounds like a bit of a Beatles pastiche, a Top of the Pops album version or something. You got lucky here, B.

I just realized that A sounds like a Cinnamon Girl rip off.
I liked B, even with Coan's vivid description criticizing it.

after careful consideration I make the boring and safe selection of A since I am a boring and safe sort of fellow.

NY is hit and miss for me..This one is a miss..The Condello track seems to be aiming for a Badfinger type Beatles nodding and it almost works..Vote B

A replica of match 1 this round, except this time a better canon bit has been picked. But much as I hate to vote against old Neil, I give a nod to the deeper find.

B is one of those tunes that could excite you when you first hear it, in the same way that any lesser-known bit of melodic pop tingles with the thrill of discovery. Unfortunately, once you dig a bit deeper, you find it's mostly superfluous.
Still, it feels wrong to vote for Neil, despite how much I love him, so...
B it is.

A is Neil at his most pedestrian and stodgy. B was pleasant enough, nice harmonies, but all a little inessential. I think it must have sounded a bit dated when it came out, like The Who gone Merseybeat.

I like B, feels like it's got a bit of an Emitt Rhodes thing to it that i enjoyed, nice. But A hits me more where i live, despite being a bit Cinnamon Girl Pt 2. The canon backlash is strong in this one, but toe to toe it's no match for mine.
