#Mittoo. This is another that's in the 'slight slice of reggae category', and I keep execting it to break into El Condo Pasa, but there's a bit more atmosphere to this one, you can feel the sweat and crumbling concrete.
And it would take a special track for me to vote with The VU in this comp, and I just don't think it's that good. You can tell why it didn't make the cut, only the (I presume Cale's) viola towards the end really approaches something special. It'd be a good Lou Reed solo track, but it's sub-par VU.

I like the VU generally, and that track specifically, despite the fact that one of them is a Trumper Troll. Don't know about the others. Two are dead and the other is Welsh. Nobody counts Doug Yule

I can't vote against T. Rex, Neil Young and Velvet Underground BThis is definitely the best of the incumbents. You're right about that. It's just that these cups used to provide a little more to discover. I guess you could at least say it's not Sweet Jane, but anything by VU at this point has been pretty widely noted, dissected, and catalogued. Sorry A, bad luck.

Yeah, sorry for the little game of paraphrasing your post, just getting some fun.

Love the smokey moodiness of the organ in A and the whole band are cooking. SS is a lovely song with a sting in the tail. I have always preferred the solo Lou version to the slightly too cutesy arrangement The Velvets give it. Very close but..A

B makes me wanna reach for Berlin and Caroline Says II. I've never been a big fan of this (and the Velvets, come to think of it)
A makes me wanna jump about, so A it is.

I'm not a VU fan. Never saw the appeal. B is a turd.
I'm not a ska/reggae fan either, but I prefer it to the VU, so I'll go with

Ooh, I was expecting Reggae, but this has more of a ska vibe about it to my inexpert eyes, and the guitar and cinema-intermission organ sound is very likeable. Nice one 6/10
So much better a version of this than on the excruciating Berlin (yeah, I know, masterpiece and all that, but almost impossible to listen to, and I haven't listened to it since the seventies) because of the arrangement mainly, as well as Lou being in better voice. I don't think that can be Cale, wasn't this recorded after he left? 6 /10
Couple of good listens... B to level it up, but reserve the right to sneak back later.

A looks like an interesting pick but yet again in the dub-reggae-ska-rock steady stakes this cup has disappointed. This track never gets dreary, I’ll give it that.
B is of course top drawer Velvets and it’s totally celestial and fresh as a lettuce. B
