interesting match-up. i've got a lot of time for early bangles. this is one of their best, but suffers from that awful 80s production.
i'm not sure what to make of B. it's like a mash up of canned heat and t-rex, but i find its wooziness quite intoxicating.
B just.

B has a really interesting low droney murk going on, and I'm curious to check out more. But man, that Bangles track is something else - it would fit right in with, say, the better tracks on Tusk. Get your shit together, James!
A.

There's a couple Bangles songs I like now & then. This isn't one of them. Nothing positive I can think to say about "Sam" other than I guess the musicians are competent.
Unfortunately I'm forced to sit this one out.

Agree completely BUT I'm going for Ahaven't heard it in a long time and it's a lovely little song. The Bangles really could have been so much better if they hadn't been marketed with such a focus on Hoffs and with fewer fucking cover version hit singles

Get your shit together, James! I could swear I just posted here, but it looks like it disappeared. Weird. Anyway, having met the James in question, though I haven't seen him in years - it ain't gonna happen. A is great, even without the positive personal associations I have with it (the Bangles are lovely people). I probably prefer the earlier, independent-label stuff more, but this still pulled off something pretty impressive - got their 60s influences into the mainstream without too much compromise.

I liked B, but there is going to be a day where Susanna Hoffs sees my likes on her tweets, checks my profile, messages me that she's leaving her husband and moving up to Oregon just to be close to me.
A
Plus I like the song.

I wish I did. For all the care that goes into Bangles sounding like their influences I just never warmed to SH's vocals. it seems like they want to be Red Kross but end up being closer to Sandra Dee. no thanks. too wholesome for me. Not crazy about B either but it'll have to do.

This is a hard match up. B, but it's really close.

A's kind of chirpy power pop is good for what it is. But I always find this kind of thing a bit undernourishing, there's not much to get your teeth into, not much sense of mystery. It's sort of why "Sunday Girl" is one of my least favourite Blondie singles. B's not perfect - there's no great song there and I'm not wild about the vocal - but there's elements that intrigue me - the dry crispiness of the drumming, the hypnotic bass, the stoned harmonising - and make me want to hear more. Ultimately I enjoyed it far more.

I guess A is a pleasant enough sliver of 80s polished pop twattery, that guitar hook is really reminiscent of something else... for some reason I'm thinking Half Japanese's "Secret" mixed with "My Best Friend's Girl". Which has to be a fairly good thing. Lightweight and a bit plastic, but not offensive.
B's a bit of a blues rock number that has the decency not to actually rock out, but keep things a bit restrained. A new name to me, a slight deviation from the standard blues boogie, but really not doing enough to keep me intrigued.
A, just about.

The best part of B is the ending, but it's still better than A.
