Oh, man, two fantastic tracks here. It's nearly impossible to choose between the two. I'll give the tie to A, simply for choosing an artist I didn't know.

A sounds like muzak to me, harmless background noise, no substance, a big ol' MEH.
B has some cool grooves going on and I like the layered rhythms.

I knew it was a kalimba all along, btw, you can tell it apart from the njani mbira by the sustain on the harmolodic fifths. Yep, good call, it's all in the sustain. A great band too, The Harmolodic Fifths. The 2nd best soul jazz-industrial group to come out of the Midlands.

A sounds like the soundtrack to an early seventies European tv series. Nice.
B is pretty cool as well. Tough choice. The thumb piano thing got on my tits after while, so I'll go with

A is wonderful. Full of yearning. B is rather a meagre offering. It’s pleasant enough but fails to take off or go anywhere at all. Which is disappointing, coming from Ramsey Lewis.

Yeah, the strings hamper A a little, so I'm going B.

A is a strange beast: somehow the non-descript film score melody and the busy bass and drums don't really gel. Pity, I was full of goodwill for the exotic - turns out it isn't really.
B is just another vibes-heavy jazz tune, but works better for me.

Was not looking forward to this, because it has the f-word in the title and the licture looks like a jazz combo, but thankfully it's not in the music. Lord save us, and I don't know why - perhaps the tone of the strillers - but I was strongly reminded of Ferrante and Teicher, not an act I evoke every day, or indeed decade.
I had two or three singles by the trio, made a few years earlier than this. They were much more to my taste (such as it is). I found this thoroughly inconsequential

One of the better matchups in the cup thus far.
