What a couple of boring picks. I knew the hot streak was going to end soon.
I'm not feeling generous here. What is the point of Crabby Appleton? Why not listen to the countless '60s & '70s bands they are ripping off, bands that did it much better...
Orville Peck, I mean, do you want to recommend Orville Peck to your friends? I fucking don't.
This sucks.

We had something from Crabby Appleton in an old BCB cup many years ago. I hadn't heard of them before then, and I haven't heard anything else from them again until now. It's pretty standard 60s pop, bit like that Condello (?) in that earlier round. Not raising much here, sorry.
Orville Peck - loved that voice, given lots of room later on to really fly. Heady stuff.

It's not a good sign when the best part of a song is the Milfs in the video. I am not crazy about forced weirdness. Maybe if it was a different video or something. It sure didn't help the song which needed all the help it can get.
I'm also a huge sucker for B

Hmm...A is an interesting character - openly gay traditional(ish) country artist whose identity is secret? Why not? - but the song's not really up to much.
B has connections to one of my favorite records ever (The Millennium Begin) and I have many common friends with the singer (older rocker who often comments on Facebook but is decidedly not a Trumper) but I feel like I've heard better songs by them. Going for them shows some imagination, but then going for their best-known song detracts from that.
Another one where I reserve the right to change my mind later, but I also can't raise much passion one way or another for either of these.

A features some nice guitar tone, good production and an excellent voice. But as Hatz said, not much of a song.
B is a quarter-of-a-hit wonder that does very correctly what is required, slight touches of soloing, nice verses, bridge and superb chorus. Probably would have done better in the charts a couple of years earlier. In any case a most pleasant listen for yours truly.

Can you be openly gay when your identity is a secret? That's semi-open at best. His voice is surprisingly rich, there's hints of Morten Harket when he goes for the high notes, I was expecting something much more countrified and horrible. It's over-produced a tad, those drums are far too 80s, but it's an interesting choice.
Thought A was going to jump straight into "Public Image" from the opening bass riff. Sadly they didn't, and went into fairly generic US rock. Not my type of thing at all, and a much less interesting pick than A.

A is the kind of alt country track, heavy on the reverb and atmosphere, which turns up in David Lynch movies. It's okay, but I've heard this kind of thing done better by others. I believe I was the first one to bring this track (B)to the cup, many years ago now, and I'm pleased to see it appear again. The song is good rather than great, but what really lifts it is the energetic exhuberance of the performance. More vitality than your morning vitamin smoothie!

I'm glad Orville got that new Cowboy Suit for Xmas but I've gotta go with B
say it softly it's almost like praying: "Crabby Appleton" seriously, I like this catchy, chewing gum for the ears sort of thing. it's almost the same side of the street as Big Star in certain ways.

I loooooove Orville Peck. THAT VOICE, combined with the really atmospheric backing, just gets me every time. Crabby Applieton... it just sounds like a third rate version of much better bands from the late '60s/early '70s.

I have nothing against the gay Canadian cowboy scene. But why is this video so hetero?

A is a bit more interesting here, though it doesn't really light my prairie fires all that much. The twangy guitar is nice. B is just a bit too rote rock.
