Culpeper's Orchard instantly reminded me of Guided by Voices. This is a very good thing.

Interesting pairing - both from the same block of flats if not the same house.
B is of course less well known, and maybe that's not fair. It certainly SOUNDS good, but it goes on a bit, and ends up doing that generic 60s jam in the middle. It certainly doesn't thrill the bones as much as the hepped-up highlight that is 'Fall On You'
After a wee bit of consideration I really have to give it to

Not blown away by either. I'd have picked another Grape song. B is just a bit better.

B is an enjoyable discovery, but no match for the majesty of A. Have I mentioned that I've performed it with its composer? (The best songwriter in the Grape, I will reiterate - it's not Skip.) Too bad about the overhype - I wish I was disqualifying it for being the canon pick that it would be in a just world.

A is a bit like the Crabby Appleton selection in this round in that it's more about the gusto of the performance than the song. This has enough strong elements - pace, commanding backing vocals, tremendous searing solo - that means you don't mind or notice that the song isn't all that. B is a late in the day psych track that has some nice touches- I like the toughness of the guitar - but is ultimately a little second tier.

Both tracks (fairly or unfairly) remind me of early Airplane. That’s not a bad thing but I’ll go B by virtue of the weird part.

I like both, and while A is a more well-crafted song, B is full of the type of weirdness that often appeals to me more than songcraft.

not much between these. the middle bit of B slightly ruins the song for me.
i blow a bit hot and cold with moby grape and this pick isn't one of my faves of theirs, but gets my vote.

B goes to many different places, some of them are fine, even very fine, but as a whole the result simply doesn't work.
A does much more in less than two minutes. Fuckin' brilliant. A

B is cute in that psych lite way, but doesn't quite do enough to beat A here.

A's another run of the mill slice of rock n' roll Americana. A cheap The Band. Feels like charity shop fodder.
B is specialist Oxfam charity shop fodder. A much less blues-boogie to their psychedelia with slightly eccentric mannered vocals, which although not really my bag, is at least edging closer. It has more ambition, even if that ambition is entirely misguided, and banging on about flying saucers.

Bunch of fucking hippies.
B started out like a dollar store Genesis, turned into Santana for a bit and then back into budget Genesis. They'd be right at home on a bill with Mighty Baby.
A's got that Saturday afternoon jug band feel, which, I hate to say, sounds like a lot of fun right now.

A is a blast. Very good. I enjoyed B too though. With its Alice in Wonderland moments. As it’s losing,
