I read the books in real time - as a high school English teacher i felt it was the right thing to do as they were so popular and became big talking points - and enjoyed them for what they were. I've never felt compelled to reread them though, and i think that says something. The movies are ok, but are just a visual fragment of what you can get from the novels, as usual with such things. My daughter who is 17 still loves HP, and i think something about the very Britishness of the story has something to do with it. That is part of its appeal to Chinese kids as well, JC, as i learned while in HK.
