Oh maaaan...
White China. They are indeed White. Undeniable. There's photographic evidence. Is this entire song an intro? For me it was, it lasted about 1 1/2min.
Naughty Sweeties. A homosexual biker gang you might assume. Think again.
Huh. I'm tired of abstaining after that dumb tie in the last round.

Wow, haven't heard about the Naughty Sweeties for a while - used to see them in the old power pop days. Liked them then, but this sounds pretty weak to me now - a second-rate copy of the Flamin' Groovies doing a second-rate copy of the Stones. Frosty on drums, iirc (300-pound guy that played with Lee Michaels for years). And the singer is not compelling, which he tries to make up for by shouting. Not buying in to this one at all.
A is pretty standard indie, but I presume that's what it's trying for, hence it's more of a success.
Not an exciting tie, but at least it's not canon!

with hand on heart, i think the white china song is quite possibly the worst pick of the cup so far. whoever chose this has not done it as a joke, they are deadly serious.
in comparison B sounds like light relief, despite not being that good.

Intriguing!
I liked the White China thing quite a bit, the synths were as shrill as fuck, the massed vocals were impressive, stretching a bit beyond their range which always adds a kind of power. Actually it was pretty memorable all round. I've never even heard of them. It reminded me a bit of that early Factory 45, the Revolutionary Swans is it? mixed in with a bit of bedroom Simple Minds or something. Sweet.
The Naughty Sweeties seemed a bit like it was daring you to like it, the in-yer-face shouty vox in the chorus especially, not particularly likeable. But there's some kind of charm there - maybe 'cos it sounded a bit unhinged in places, completely fresh (in the sense that it's new to me), not at all bad
But ultimately this has to go to
A
which I'll definitely play again before the night's out, and which I feel will grow on me. Smart!

'Intriguing!' didn't come to mind on this one at all. Though it may turn out fun in the end.

I'm not getting the indie/Wild Swans vibe from A at all. Rather it sounds like fairly typical major label mid 80s 'big music' type thing, like Then Jericho or something like that. I didn't mind it - it had energy, I like the upfront drums, although I suspect that will piss off some. It was all a bit too overblown though.
B sounds like a Stiff Records b side from 1978, recorded after an afternoon session down the local. I warmed to its amateurish boisterousness though. The singer seems to be chanelling the Legendary Stardust Cowboy.

I can't say that I really enjoyed either of these too much. A really reminded me of something from the 80's that I can't quite put my finger on, and B was, well, just not that great.
A, for now.

Well, the haircuts on the picture of A had me expecting something much worse. Of course the music adjusts well to the same date as the haircuts, but it is a good tune with some energy in it.
I found B not particularly memorable and the vocals unpleasant.

Wow, this is the most 80s thing ever, quite far from generic indie, it's venturing closer to the likes of T'Pau and King. It has a vocal that you expect when someone tries cashing in on a footballer's fame, I wouldn't be surprised if Kevin Keegan is the lead singer. Probably produced by Jonathon King. It's an absolute horror show, and I salute whoever dug this far into Woolworths bargain bin to find this.
Talking of paedophiles, The Naughty Sweeties is the nonciest name for a band I've ever heard. It sounds like a drunk Nick Cave joining The Stones on stage of a late 80s forgotten tour. Well done preludin, you really have unearthed a couple of genuine turds here! Properly enjoyable cheesy turdfests at that, I've never heard such good-hearted failures for a long time.
Abstaining, but with a big smile.

Christ, these picks are painful. A sounds like it comes from some the soundtrack to some 1987 straight-to-video sequel to a movie in which the original wasn't that even that good or successful, and the producers for this low-budget sequel had, like, $3 and a day to license a song, and this is what they got.
Regarding B... I like a lot of objectively terrible music when it's exciting, or totally unique, or just plain weird. This is none of those things, except objectively terrible. You know how, like, the NY Dolls could maybe be seen as, like, a Warhol color-blowout of the Stones circa '71 or so? This is like a stick figure copy of that. Ugh.
Abstain.
