Had to look up B. Not available here.
No matter. "Then She Remembers" is an absolute scorcher.

Very tough call. I'm sure I bumped into 'skope while bobbing my head to A back in the day.
B is really cool, and new to me, though it sounds earlier than '65, and the singer's a touch 'pitchy'. Intriguing, but not compelling, ultimately.

The Dream Syndicate - ooh, they're carrying on the Velvets' legacy NO THEY'RE FUCKING NOT this is almost as bad as those lazy spotty idiots the Jesus Mary and Joseph Cunts. Risible. Why even bother? Where's the talent here? These kind of people shouldn't get within a million miles of a recording studio when there are shops to run, roads to build and people to look after. And anyone encouraging them should be locked up
but
B
fucking hell, that was great! lovely groovy stuff, a very clear winner here

I played the Dream Syndicate tune thinking I wouldn't like it because they've never grabbed me in the past when I've heard them, but I was pleasantly surprised. From the outset it still seemed a bit annoying but as it chugged along I enjoyed it more and more. The singer sounds like Chris Bailey in parts which is an added bonus.
I also dig the naive Stax vibe of B, and the vocals are totally charming.
This is a tough choice. Flip a coin...

First time I've listened to the Dream Syndicate. Lyrics on this are bleak, but it rolls along swiftly.
Not getting the Velvets comparison, really - more a blues injected Mission of Burma

i was a big fan of 'the days of wine and roses' back in the day, but this track is not one of my favourites from it. if only the poster had selected 'tell me when it's over'!
B is new to me and i really enjoyed it. i will chalk it down as another discovery of the cup. thanks to whoever is responsible for choosing it.

Both of these are okay, but lacking the strong songwriting to pull them from sounding generic. I was expecting something a little different from A from the descriptions and from what I remembered of the band. As it was, it was a straight Stooges rip, done with a good energy admittedly, but not distinctive in any way. B had a great sound, the playing on it, particularly the drumming, was top notch. But it was killed rather by a flat, characterless lead vocal (she actually sounds bored singing it!) and a dull song that got monotonous pretty quickly. Ultimately, both were a little disappointing. But I'd probably dance to B if it came on at two in the morning in a club, so B.

A good tie, 2 interesting and enjoyable tracks. Not sure why everyone is so keen to pigeonhole bands into "they are just copies of X and Y", it's such a lazy move sometimes; i sense a bit of subtle gamesmanship from some voters. Well, all's fair in love and the Cups. The DS came out sounding like themselves from the start, a mix of all that was good from 60s and 70s rock, and this track has some fine playing. The T&M cut also sounds a lot like other things but somehow finds its own niche thanks to those very distinctive voices, nice choice picker. Maybe A by a whisker for its energy and fab guitars.

This really reminds me of that Scandinavian retro-pop-punk thing from the noughties? The Hives? I take it this lot were proto-retro-pop-punk and missed the revivial by a distance. It's not too, bad, there's a Stooges-esque attack to the vocals and guitar at the start, and it's good to have someone other than fonz picking something with a hint of volume.
B is another I'm presidposed to vote against, being another preludin comfort blanket. However, I almost enjoyed this one, the drums are awesome, the band are really tight, and the song actually has a nice quirky melody. That vocal is a shocker though, it sounds like she's been forced to sing against her will, completely flat and lifeless. Might be worse than that fella from Cardinal. Really can't understand how that vocal made it to the final cut.

I love A and probably picked this very track 7 or 8 years ago for the Cup. B is just not quite good enough to compete here.

I like ‘em both a lot. The second one sounds like a track I should know better.
