He could have been Linus in this sketch:

Sean is out of shape because of the lockdown. He hasn't been able to punch any photographers.

Ah can't say too much bad about him. In a world where celebrities think pontificating on instagram or the like will change or help situations, he actually goes head first in to the situation with supplies, food and medicine. Have gone off his acting style lately though.

He's gone off my radar in the last few years. I find the films he directs good but a little worthy..
As for the photo, he looks like a guy in his late 50s, which is what he is of course. It's quite refreshing in a way as most famous actors put in a lot of effort into trying to look a lot younger than they are, but then SP was never movie star handsome.

He's very good but it's hard to think of any classic films. The last thing I really liked him in was Harvey.
Utter fucking tool of a man mind.

I'm sure he has charisma.
Like a lot of very good actors these days they haven't had the great movies that actors in, say, the 70s had in Hollywood sadly.

I watched Into The Wild last night. It's largely very good.

I think he's very talented but I think directors need to keep a thumb on him. He can get a little stewed in his own juices. He can bring more to the task than is required. when he does a more confident style of acting - when he knows the camera is looking into his very soul - he can be very good indeed.
I don't want to discount an actor's flair for histrionics - given the right role this can be a plus - especially in comedies.

I’m still convinced that somebody said something back around the late 80s or early 90s that resonated to the ‘great actors club’ and changed all of their acting styles all at once. You see guys like Pacino, De Niro, Nicholson and a bunch of others all pull away from naturalism towards the operatic all at the same time. In that group of actors, Penn was like Tom Petty to the other Wilburys - the younger guy that they let into the club - but he follows them all into the ham factory.
It’s as if Marlon Brando told them all that naturalism is now for squares, and they all bought it.

I think Brando's successful efforts at getting BIG paydays for short schedules was a factor as well.

If they'd stuck to indie cinema, I guess they could've retained that style of acting, but I don't think it was possible in late 90s and 00 Hollwood. Hollywood just doesn't make those kind of films anymore.
