I'm not quite as into it as I was last year, but I'd be really happy if Yalitza Aparicio got the award for Best Actress.
Some people are saying Richard E Grant's boundless enthusiasm and gratitude is faked. Isn't that mean spirited? I hope he takes a prize home too.

I really like Colman but the Oscars are such bollocks Yep. Self-regarding wankers given a global platform to behave like, well, self-regarding wankers. I did see some photos on Facebook this morning. There seemed to be a lot of people wearing truly daft outfits, even more than usual.

"so superficial!"
"and SO ostentatious!"
"I know! and all the time, children are dying in Africa"
"shameless!"

It's more that they're just all so very pleased with themselves.

She's lovely.
I enjoyed most of the speeches, actually. And the gowns!

It's more that they're just all so very pleased with themselves. rightly so! they won Oscars! anyway - the vast majority spend most of their time up there thanking other people

"so superficial!" "and SO ostentatious!" "I know! and all the time, children are dying in Africa" "shameless!" They just pick the wrong movies. It’s a load of old virtue signalling, back slappy crap

Has anyone seen Green Book? Lot of talk on social media about how it's an undeserving winner.
Still think I'd prefer to see it than that Beale Street lark

The trailer looks a bit hokey but Moonlight was great.

Has anyone seen Green Book? Lot of talk on social media about how it's an undeserving winner. I liked it. Spike Lee and others are certainly entitled to their opinions. I found it far more substantial than the detractors do. It’s not a “white savior” movie. It’s about a racist white guy who overcomes his racism by actually interacting with an accomplished black man. Look, I loved “BlacKKKlansman”. If someone thinks it wuz robbed - that’s fair. I might agree it’s the superior film but it was a long shot anyway. I don’t think it’s fair to characterize the Green Book as being namby pamby. When I was a kid, I saw James Baldwin on Dick Cavett. Another guest accused Baldwin of “making everything about race”. Baldwin forcefully and elequently responded that, as a black man in America, everything IS about race. i think “Green Book” was going for something like that. It’s a little corny and old fashioned but in a good way. Both main performances are splendid. Yeah, “racism is bad” isn’t exactly breaking news but it presents a not too distant past that many would like to return to. I think it’s well intentioned, well performed and entertaining. It bugs me to see it assessed as somehow being a throwback to “...Daisy” or “Guess Who’s coming to Dinner” i was surprised to see it singled out as Best Picture (I thought it would be Roma) but it’s certainly not the first time that’s happened.
