You absolute twat. I've been wracking my brains (and google), trying to think of Finnish authors. The really annoying thing was, I knew he was Finnish, I've seen the picture before, but couldn't place it. Yes. I am a complete cunt! The photo looked semi-familiar... the Finland clue put me over the edge. I meant Ray was an absolute twat, with his "writer's block" clue. But y'know, if the shoe fits...

Hurrah! Yes. I honestly thought that, along with Jimmy Greaves, he was a gimme.

while i was reading an obituary of freddy from 'rod, jane and freddy' of rainbow fame, i stumbled across the photo of number 9.
it's peter hawkins who was the voice of zippy and the daleks, apparently. oh and bill and ben. i think ray has mentioned him before.
an incredibly obscure pick.

And Captain Pugwash and his crew, among others. Easily the most famous voice actor of his generation.
I don't see how that is more obscure than your choice of minor cast members of 60s cult TV shows, but there you go. His son, Silas, was my flatmate in Cricklewood in the mid-1980s. I once went to his house for dinner. There were several Impressionist paintings on the walls. In order to insure them, they had their mansion flat locked up like a fortress, and, as I understand it, one of them (him, his wife and I think his mother-in-law) had to be on the premises at all times. Nice paintings, but what a way to live.

William Kotzwinkle, author og The Fan Man. the Bear Went Over the Mountain (two of the funniest books I ever read), Doctor Rat and novelisations of ET and Superman movies among 20 and more adult novels/fantasies, as well as a best-selling childrens' author, including a series about a farting dog . My favourite living writer by a distance, and one I wasn't expecting anyone to get. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Kotzwinkle
