It felt like I could get called into my dentist's office at any moment while I was listening to that.
Neither hit nor shit. With a few minor variations, it's pretty much the same melody throughout, except for the spoken bit, but it's got a lightness of touch that prevents it from becoming monotonous.

Inoffensive but mildly annoying, therefore closer to shit than hit for me.

This era of R&B was very hit and miss. There are other songs like this with the same kind of production, which I can't stand. The song hangs on one little melody or riff. It sucks.

I like it a lot.
80s and 90s Motown, folks - some real gems.

I am the anti-G here (again?) Exact opposite of what he says (except for the inoffensive part). It's more ignorable than annoying - doesn't really get my attention one way or another, but it's pleasant enough while it's happening.
I guess that puts me vaguely on the 'hit' side, but I'm not feeling terribly convicted about it...

There was so much good American r n'b and dance music from this time, I'm not sure why you'd bother with this. One for the kiddies.

All the production was the same. You had Pebbles, LeVert, Jodeci, Color Me Badd, all that shit. The only things I liked were En Voge and Tony! Toni! Toné! and the production on those pretty much sucked too. Luther Vandross made a good album that year, but that was the Freddie Jackson and Peabo Bryson years of R&B. Thank you, but no.

Both R&B and C&W were going through phases I didn't enjoy much in the early '90s.

I'm kinda with JC on this, though it's obviously far from my taste, and I'm also comparing it to things which are far frmo my taste. But I reckon if this was released in 1973, with the recording equipment and sound of the time, this song would be loved by some of you here. The hook is a bit of class, imo.
