no poll.
just an opportunity to luxuriate.
it's difficult to think of someone who went on to PISS ON their legacy so much.
awful man, but by Christ he was God for a year.

Yeah Skope I think the late Eddie Van Halen said it best that without a decent rhythm section he sounds lost.......
The Bluesbreaker stuff is some of the best electric blues playing you will EVER hear.
Cream is good but imagine even better LIVE given his famous rendition of "Crossroads".
Apparently he turned up for a jam with Stevie Wonder but only wanted to play "BLUES".
I will say his Unplugged set has some great playing and arrangements on it but think that was down to the piano player.....

Anyone can play the individual parts to this song but to find a band who can play like this together is impossible.
Telepathic.

I love the atmosphere/production on the Mayall stuff, not fussed with Eric's playing. I think Greenie did a better job. I love all the Cream studio stuff. Don't really care for them live, Clapton just doesn't have the narrative solo style that Jimi had.

Filmore East is the pinnacle for me.

I think the story goes is Alex got the guitar, but didn't play it so Eddie picked it up. And Alex moved to drums. And their dad was a musician too, which must have helped as well. I forget when, but I was talking to a guy who was a really good guitarist and he said that's how he can tell a good lead guitarist from a bad one - timing.

I Feel Free is godhead, and I'm so glad is top ten cream (although Skip James's original is all you really need from a blues point of view). I bought his stuff throughout the sixites, from I wish you would on through the Beano album to Cream (the only time I saw him live) but ultimately decided that he was basically a fairly talented sideman with nothing to say, and Cream was basically Jack's band. John Mayall was, and probably still is, tedious.

IMO He wasn't God but Hendrix put the FEAR of God in him and that's a sound I'll always enjoy.
