one vote. choose carefully.
let's get to the bottom of it.
anyway, anyhow, anywhere - the who
tin soldier - the small faces
jumpin' jack flash - the rolling stones

'My Generation' is way more exciting as a Who choice. I like AAA but it's the weakest of this bunch.
'Tin Soldier' is fine but the verses don't thrill as much as the intro and the other 'workouts'.
So it's between the Stones and the Pistols, which are indisputably among the most exciting A-sides ever released. I'll have to give it some thought.

AAA wins by a landslide, although No Future or Anarchy in the UK would have given me FOOD FOR THOUGHT. I'm very fond of the Small Faces, expecially the Immediate years, but never really found them exciting. And I'm not knocking the Stones, or JJF, but teenage Rayge merely liked it, and again, I found very little in their singles - fine pop though many of them are, to get the adrenaline pumping the way the Who in full overload mode did. AAA was the first time I ever heard feedback, and it was love at first eardrum perforation.

Pretty Vacant is the only one I'd choose to listen to.

Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere is absolutely one of the most exciting singles. An anthem of liberation. When they come out the feedback break back into the verse it's a real Who moment.
Tin Soldier climaxes magnificently and has a rolling, surging quality that builds beautifully. When Marriot sings, "Cos I love you!" it's a great, ecstatic moment in pop.
I voted JJF though. There is just something really visceral and charged about it. All the Stones sexual energy and swagger condensed into three minutes that sounds like the greatest rock n roll record ever made. Or thereabouts anyway.

A quartet of 5-star monsters. If i had to vote for one it would just be on which means most to me personally, and that would probably be JJF.

I really can't see all the high praise for AAA. No, well, of course not. It's daft.

For me... Tin Soldier Jumping - great, but I'm a teeny bit burnt out on it. Pretty Vacant AAA - Good, but I'd go as far as to say it's the weakest of the early hit singles. Can't Explain is much better.

i'm getting a bit sick of all the negativity towards AAA.

instead of behaving like a 65-year-old, imagine hearing it in '65. no one else was making a record like it. you are like michael elphick in quadrophenia.

G's right that 'I Can't Explain' is better. 'Substitute' too. And of course 'My Generation' is more exciting.
