I can sort out a format for however many entrants we get, skope. There are a few usual entrants who have not signed in yet - Mark oleander, neige, nolamike, gash, sloop, among others - and I always have pandascream in reserve to make up the numbers if necessary. The more the merrier, really. that's true, but it would nice to keep the aliases out if possible. they tend to impose their tastes on others and skewer the competition. No they don't, skope, that's silly.
At most, there will be my two aliases (I NEVER enter as Rayge) and my tastes, such as they are, are more wide-ranging than anyone else on the board by far. As I explained before in the last cup, which I entered as pandascream, I don't pick favourites in generalist cups - last time it was stuff that had earned me money on discogs, this time I'll just select randomly from the 90,000-odd things I have on iTunes, most of which I have never listened to more than once, if at all.

I'm sure it will be clearer later, but i'm not quite sure what the letters conversation is about. It has made me want to check the filing of my albums though...

It has made me want to check the filing of my albums though... it does open up the whole conversation about how we file our music, but i think ray has been quite clear that the letter should be the first name of the artist. so P for the pretty things and pete dello.

I think the bottom line is it would be better not to have one person have double or triple the number of chooses unless it is the only solution. At the moment we have 14. I think we should aim for 16 and have everyone pick a letter twice. Rayge JC Darkness Fish Skope Hatz DayoDead Bluejl Colin O flange G Fonz CousinLou oz Goat Boy

Think what you like about rayge, who is after all a fictional character, but Ray likes to avoid all competitive environments because I hate the way it makes me feel.
The only way I can truly enjoy a game (which is what this is, really) of any kind, is Not To Care who 'wins'.
And very rayge? C***'s list from last cup Eddie Cochran - Nervous Breakdown TV Personalities - Part Time Punks Oliver Cheatham - Get Down Saturday Night Martin Cuthbert - Committed to Vinyl Paul Blackman - Earth Wind and Fire Sea Urchins - Pristine Christine White China – Smiles and Jokes Missing Scientists – Big City Bright Lights

But why are we talking about letters in the first place? As I understand it, we pick tracks whose artists first letters spell PRELUDIN So .. You would pick your usual track by Peter Andre. You might have 'Save My Love' by Rene and Renata as your second choice etc.

I think we should aim for 16 and have everyone pick a letter twice. Actually forget that. Two groups with everyone picking 8 tracks would be better.

P - first round artists beginning with P R - second round artists beginning with R E L U D I N etc. Oh ok. What about artists starting with The, still T? No. Have you read the thread, Fange? All the questions you asked have already been answered. The format is basically song against song, anything goes, but in each round the Artist, not the title, begins with the same letter.
In answer to skope's concerns, my current thinking is that, to avoid squabbling, we go with the convention that we go with the first letter of the first word (excluding the definite article) of the name of the artist as it appears on the record label/youtube clip, so B for Bob Dylan, The Beatles or Barry Manilow, C for Captain Beefheart, and so on: S for the Stooges but I for Iggy and the Stooges if that's what's on the label for that particular track. And as for timing, will leave this open for joiners until the weekend, then INSIST (and hatz, I'm looking at you ) on getting lists by lunchtime Friday week so I can put the first round up as soon as possible on the Friday night or Saturday morning (BST).
