It seems strange to start any obituary thread (except perhaps about the band Obituary) with the words "I didn't care for ...", but like the majority here, I didn't care for Slipknot. Not entirely the target audience here. There's no doubt that he was a great drummer though, or that Slipknot really brought fairly extreme metal to a mainstream audience. My own memory of him is at Download 04, where after a surprisingly nondescript Slipknot performance, he stepped into Lars Ulrich's shoes at the last minute, forcing Metallica down a route of playing all the songs from my youth. The rest of the night's conversations, all over camp were basically about Joey, he absolutely blew everyone away, the boy could bloody well drum.
Only a few months older than myself. Far too young. RIP masked fella.
