Most of the comments are over the top negative, we are small board with ever diminishing membership that have to live with each other afterwards. Despite the hyperbole nothing there is terrible, i don't like the Pixies, but they are competent, i don't see the point in some crazed post blaming the chooser. The cups are special and they can make or break this place. It might be different if we were a large anonymous board, but we ain't. It gets to be a sort of a game of musical numbers, replacing "mama" and "fat" with "this song is so bad that. . ."

Can't start a thread in the cup section, so putting it here. A couple of posters have started doing the single letter A or B thing when voting for for the round one ties. Can we nip this in the bud NOW and make sure everyone makes a comment when they vote in round two. Cheers! I don't know why you demand this as a requirement for every cup? In my own case, sometimes I want to participate but don't have time to think up witty bon mots. I do get that, but I'm not demanding an essay or even "witty bon Mots". I'm fine with a very curt comment if that's all someone feels like doing. What I don't want to read are a load of single letter responses because it makes the whole thing boring and pointless. It's not asking a lot surely?

I'm not as mentally strong as I once was, and some of the criticisms seemed fairly pointed (I mean I know my picks are fairly recognisable in any competition), and I would stew on them and let it affect my real life, so I decided to remove myself from the situation. The rough and tumble isn't for me anymore.

While I do agree with the general sentiment that it makes for more attractive reading to add some comments, it pains me to say that you people have dived so deep into the vaults of obscurity that most of the time I haven't heard the song before, or even know the artist. Sometimes neither. So it's a choice at first hearing. Some entries you like better than the other and often neither. Of course it is tempting, fitting, and often fully warranted to resort to ' beauties' like ' the one who choose this must be a total tool', but personally I don't see much value in that.

Thanks for explaining R. It's often a first hearing for me too and probably a lot of other people too, so many times your comment is giving your first impressions.

i prefer it when you are stricter and less forgiving with posters, G.

Be careful what you wish for, Skopey old chum.
Just imagine how sad your life could be if people would be less forgiving.

Always play the ball, not the man. Nothing annoys me more in music criticism than projecting your biases as some kind of objective fact. "People say they like this because..." or, "the type of people who listen to this...". Bollocks, all of it.

It's all in good fun.
I want to win, of course (I never do!), but I'd also be just as disappointed if I posted something that nobody hated as I would be if I posted something that nobody liked.
And sometimes the criticisms can be hilarious.
