A Never really been a fan of British 'soul' (or R&B) largely because it often sounds like a pale imitation of Amreican sounds without the benefit of US studios and session players. This is a reasonable stab at the early 70s sweet soul/Philly sound, with a decent vocal, although I thought the instrumentation was a little insipid - apart from the insertion of that jarring, and really rather fine piano break, and very different bit of piano - and that the song was lame enough - cringey lyrics, dude - to have been inspired by Stevie Wonder, which is not a good thing.
And here's a copy of another ’70s American sound that I didn't like much at the time. Thankfully it pastiches the James Williamisms of the Raw Power era rather than the earlier albums, but the basic problem is that the vocalist isn't a patch on Iggy. Song is a bit flimsy, too, and personally I can't undersand quite why anyone would be reviving this sound in the 21st century.
I may come back to this: the deranged piano is edging me toward A, and the guitar tone toward B, but I'm currently stuck in the middle. Feels like a 1-1 draw to me.

There's a lot of interesting stuff going on with A. The backing track sounds like Tortoise, but then morphs into Steely Dan in the 'chorus' bits and then into the piano solo. The vocal is the one thing keeping it from being great.
B is a good slab of rock fun and is hitting right this morning.

Real Thing
The contrast between the anguished vocals and the hypercolour backing make this a winner.
Reigning Sound
It’s ok but these Garage reeanactment wallahs need a better song to make it hit hard. There’s nothing at stake here.
