I can imagine hatz slappin' his thigh to A. I don't really want to imagine that.
The Randy Crawford song is just beautiful

I can imagine hatz slappin' his thigh to A. I don't really want to imagine that. Y'sure? I could wear the short shorts while I'm doing it. Maybe with wooden spoons. Might be good for a cheap thrill. In all honesty, as great a singer as I think she is, and as much as I love her in the context of Carolina Chocolate Drops, I find her solo stuff a bit stuffy and overly earnest. But B is in that 'turn of the 80s' zone where things are just starting to get a touch too slick. Tough call, but I think that's urging me back in the direction of A. Sure wish it was a CCD track, then there'd be no conflict. Unfortunately, there ain't no C in PRELUDING.

A
The song has the rhythm of the old concrete slab parts of US Route 1, there is a partition in the road every 50ft or so that creates a loping rhythm as the tires hit. Farm land, small towns, woods, are all touchable from the cars window.
Crawford is a great singer, but One Day is too proto Whitney slickness and pap.

thanks to all involved for forcing me to engage my critical faculties. I almost made it through this round just bashing into my lower chakras like a bug against a porch light.
finger to chin. this MUST get down to the singing. both are quite good (finger to chin-wise) all my multiple personalities scored each in several categories and held up little numbered cards as they did so. it was pretty close but while I couldn't do the math in my head the winner was clearly B

I didn't mind A, but it's the kind of thing I feel I've heard a million times before. There's not much character there.
The Randy Crawford track treads a very delicate line between something a little too sickly and slick and something quite inspirational and beautiful. I think it ends up on the right side of the line..just. It's a beautiful melody and arrangement.

i agree with gav regarding 'one day'. i can imagine DLT introducing it on TotP: 'this one's for all you mums and dads out there'.
A does nothing for me. i can't even muster a sympathy vote for it.
a poor ending to an extremely disappointing round. we must do better.

ABSTAINDamn, skope all these years of living your skope can't expand? A still has a great vocal, how often do you come upon a great vocal nowadays that isn't drowned in syrup? Or think as close to much of the Britfolk you like.

Since I don't abstain, B was less annoying

A is annoying, as it feels like there could've been a decent song in there somewhere. It seems to have been wrestled awkwardly to the barn floor, and forced to be market-friendly, especially with that unnecessary clunker of a chorus. Could've been a thing of lightness and style, but ends up as a duck in cowboy boots.
B is a proper cheese fest, I keep expecting Eric and Ernie to burst in with a pigeon on a stick, and it would've been an improvement. It's all too syrupy and overblown and slimy in its horrible oozy slickness. Not for me.

A is right up my alley. I listened to the Crawford song and was expecting much after JC's comments.

Well, these are both brave picks for mine, styles that are significatly outside most Preludiners' comfort zones.
I have a high tolerance for both roots and cheese though, and i don't mean the edible kinds. I have a soft spot for RC's voice, so that just gets her in front by a hair.

One of two rounds in "R" which have tested my "No Abstain" resolve..Under cooked Grits v. Cheese Whiz..The music is better in the grits and I prefer Nicole Kidman singing the cheese in 'Moulin Rouge' to this original version..Vote A
