have to say that this one was a bit of a BOREFEST.
i kept hoping that the extradition track would pick up, but it never really did. they should have shaved two minutes off it.
the eluvium track is just some kind of new-age dirge that you might hear on a self-help record to assist with sleeping issues.

I'll go for
A
'cos it's just that bit more tolerable.
But I'll just say this: if I was submitting songs to a competition, I wouldn't choose either of these.
The mind really does boggle.

A is never going to appeal to Preludin's beat boy primitives with their two second attention spans and reluctance to look beyond easily digestible verse/chorus guitar pop. But for those with patience A brings huge rewards in the way its meditative power builds. It's all about its stripped back, almost ritualistic nature which means each instrument and voice introduces another layer of monastic beauty. Haunting and elegiac.
I don't really get B. It feels like listening to electrical static.

So just me that likes both of these, then?
Yes, fair enough, I can see A being a little shorter, or having more variation of instrumentation or melody. But I also hear what G's talking about. It has a meditative quality that I think you'd lose if they got too fancy with it. As it is, it's sort of a minimalist Pentangle or something. Might not be their best song, but it intrigues me enough to want to hear more.
B is nice, actually - proper minimalism with real guitars to boot. And nice and short too. Another that intrigues me enough to want to hear more of the artist to see if there are bigger delights to have elsewhere. A bit slight, but neither boring nor overbearing.

Extradition is a new name to me, and I like what I'm hearing here. The laid back, almost fragmented approach to the guitar work is kinda like a 70s precursor to some of the mellower Jewelled Antler recordings. Gotta love the sound of the room being recorded, haven't you, all that space you can hear in the ambient background hiss. Ooh, it's got vocals, I wasn't expecting that, perfectly done, too. I've got to say, this is the surprise of the cup for me so far, this is wonderful. Is the rest of the album in a similar vein? Did they record much else? Genuinely fantastic. Love it to bits. I'm tempted to see if I can buy thr album immediately
Oh, B is pretty cool too, what tough luck to get drawn in a tie as good as this. Never heard of this fella, either, but this is definitely my cup of char. Reminds me a little of something, I can't think what though? Philip Jeck, possibly? It really builds and flows beautifully, lots of echoing hollow metallic overlapping sounds. Undoubtedly the best tie in the cup so far, it's such a shame they were drawn against each other, but I guess one will be rewarded at least, rather than both being beaten by a Runaways track.
Restored my faith in humanity, and absolutely what the cup is all about for me. Sorry, B, but A was just too good.
*Late edit - I just searched out some ewe-choobs of the album, and the first track has a comment by Ed Askew! How cool is that?
Ooh, it's being re-released on vinyl in a couple of weeks. I'm having it.

A was nice in an unwashed German (I know they're Australian) hippie way. I would have liked B a decade or so ago, but I've lost all patience with this sort of thing.

I did like both without being terribly excited at either. A felt more fitting for a summer afternoon.

B is ok in its way, but a bit too close to a movie background theme. A is more enjoyable overall. Damn hippies.

Both interesting.
A is more interesting, though. I especially liked the breathy flute at the end that sounded like it was imitating a mourning (morning!) dove. I'd like to hear more from these freaks.

Two great tracks here. Extradition were on a Wyrd Folk compilation that billy put together on BCB a few years ago and I loved them straight away. B's not too shabby either but, reluctantly, it's
