The best thing about A is his voice; Lou could fucking SING, man. But B is a blast and has me shaking my ass like disco fiend.

A is ‘love music’.
B is what New Order could have been with a better singer.
I have to give it to A

The Lou Rawls isn't so good as all that - I mean it's good but it's outshined by B, which has nice flashy bits.

I love Lou rawls' voice, his set on Monterey pop is awesome. There is, admittedly, a bit too much ' Ladeez, please form an orderly queue' about this but I'm able to ignore it. I hope I won't be blackballed for this but I didn't listen to B all the way through. I got the picture early on.

First heard Lou in the ’60s running through the Bacharach-David songbook, and always thought of him as more supper-club than a soul or R&B vocalist, and this later offering reinforces that view. It's all right, but nothing to distinguish it from thousands of other routine pop retreads of the Motown songbook. Oh, and a note to my fellow posters. THIS IS NOT SOUL MUSIC. NOT EVEN CLOSE, YOU CLOTH-EARED LAZY TWATS
Another genre I'm not particularly fond of, but I was contriving to quite enjoy this until the male robo-voice came in. Depite that, I listened to it all. I found it thoroughly underwhelming in truth, but I'm still going to vote for it in protest against the misattribution of A, and because that's the way I roll.

. THIS IS NOT SOUL MUSIC. NOT EVEN CLOSE, YOU CLOTH-EARED LAZY TWATS I think the term Philly soul has been used which is accurate in terms of its sound ( if not its geography, I think Rawls was LA based).

I don't like the disrespect Lou is getting here. I may have to change my vote.

Yeah, fair play G, but in my view Philly soul (and I was/am a fan of some of it) has no connection to 'real' soul, and Lou, despite his past in the Soul Stirrers (thanks to Snee for that snippet, would never have guessed!), had long before this track moved over to the smooth side. It's a long-lost battle (about terminology rather than anything to do with the quality of the music), I know, but I still insist on fighting it, because it used to matter to me, and because, you know, obstinate
