bloody nora. fields is like a london bus. you never of him on here and suddenly he appears in two consecutive rounds. bit of a strange pick though, considering there are so many great tracks to choose from. i would have preferred one with him singing rather than this generic 70s funk instrumental.
i actually have that lurkers two-fer single and remember buying it in our price, brent cross. like fields, the lurkers are a band we need to talk about more. they tend to get forgotten about. anyway, you can't go wrong with 'shadow'.

So many lee Fields, so many Runaways, etc.,
The Lurkers epitomize lunkheadness, amazing how their stock has risen.
B
This one may be the weakest offering for me yet, but no abstaining.

To say The Lurkers were deeply ordinary is to overpraise them. Here a song of no fixed talent is coupled with the most boring guitar riff of all time. I'm certainly not going to punish B for appearing as a guest in an earlier pick..what a bizarre reason to cast your vote. This is an exciting, full bodied and hot bloodied instrumental, completely out of step with what was happening in soul/rn'b in 1979. Great drumming and use of wah wah. Invigorating! One for the sharp cats.

Geeeeezus, what a poor match!
B is basically a nice grove, and that's it. Some not particularly brilliant organ noodling over a repetitive bass line for quite a long time before it gets worse, a fucking bass solo!
But then it is million times better than the horror that is A. This lot are in debt with the universe for the time spent in the studio.

Please redirect others' comments about the Radiators to mine about A. Thank you in advance.
As others have said, not much to B but a groove, but it's a hell of a groove.
Weakest round so far. Glad to get through it.

was very good

Christ, at least A is an actual song! How anyone can get excited by a repetitive groove with some noodling over top is beyond me. I've never heard Shadow before, but I dug it, especially when the 2nd guitar comes in all atonally - that's good stuff right there! Sure it's a sub-Ramones lunkhead of a tune, but it's got way more charm than a bunch of guys who were lucky enough to have someone roll tape during a boring jam session.

Lee Fields is this years William Onyeabor -- never heard of him before, now the proverbial dead cat. I was worried he may be from the Daptone scene, which I find to be as interesting as a statistics class. I've heard A before, can't remember where -- I am familiar with Ain't Got a Clue B isn't bad, but 1979? 1979 should sound like Don't Stop Til You Get Enough, He's the Greatest Dancer, I Want Your Love, not Carl playing with his wah wah.

Very standard punk rock from The Lurkers, but there is something quite nice about the repetitive "sha-dow sha-dow" bit. Almost sounds like they're starting to learn French or something. Inoffensive, not particularly inspiring, but I don't hate it. But Coccupants was right about that 2nd guitar.
I've never heard of Lee Fields, and don't know what else he was on, or why everyone's talking about him, or why this track was picked. Are those my feet? Library music, for an early 70s library. It's basically a better version of that horrific Morricone track from the previous round, which is faint praise indeed.

My first listen to the Lurkers. They sound like what would happen if the Shaggs had discovered the Ramones and got a sex change.
The Fields guy. It's a bit Pages From Ceefax-ish but I like the bass.

A terrible round. A is everything that was shit about the ‘anyone can do it’ mentality. There may be a fourth chord in there, but it’s appalling. B is dullsville.
A, for sympathy.
