Smiths singleThis Charming Man. Obvious pick, B, etc, but it's a perfect encapsulation of what The Smiths were at their best. Clash albumThe debut, if I had to listen to one, but I'd rather not. Pink Floyd trackProbably See Emily Play. Don't know if I've heard any other likeable PF single. punk A-sideEver Fallen In Love. Though "Oh Bondage, Up Yours!" is much more punk, and also a good shout. 90s bandU.S. Maple 60s hitCathy's Clown. Rolling Stones album cover Neil Young tuneThe Needle and the Damage Done box setTG:24

60s hit - The Drifters - 'On Broadway' Great record, couldn't agree more, but it only scraped top ten in the States, did nothing in the UK or anywhere else to my knowledge - what did it do in Oz?

In terms of chart position, i'm not sure to be honest Ray. It was all over oldies radio when i was growing though, so i have always considered it a "hit". Edit: top 5 in the States, top 50 in the UK, according to wiki. I say hit!

When it was released in the UK, none of the inkies publised a top 50, so I'm not sure where that came from, unless it was rereleased at some point.

Yep, me too, number 9. It was Up on the Roof that was number 5. But hey, no squabbling, great record: I would have put it among about a dozen or so that I prefer to YLTLF myself, but left out because I wanted unequivocal big hits.

I think if the poll was about the Stones worst cover, I'd have difficulties to choose between It's Only RnR and Dirty Work.

Smiths single - William.... for me. Concise, and..it really has everything I need from them.
Clash album - London Calling (bits like "I'm Not Down", "The Right Profile", etc. seems to catch them at a nice scrappy, chaotic point in their cul de sac of a journey)
Pink Floyd track - Objectively, See Emily Play or Astronomy Domine, but...they hit several more heights in later years ("Dogs", "Echoes", even some little miniature like "San Tropez" is quite satisfying)
punk A-side - Ever Fallen in Love or Neat, Neat Neat
90s band - for me, My Bloody Valentine.
60s hit - "She's Not There"
Rolling Stones album cover - Let it Bleed
Neil Young tune - "Don't Let it Bring You Down"
box set - Oh, the Girl Groups box, surely.
