There's a new Beach Boys box set - Feel Flows - centred around the sessions for Sunflower and Surf's Up.

I've always liked both albums but preferred Surf's Up simply because its highs are higher and it captures some kind of palpable end of the 60s dream vibes that makes it quite haunting. I know it's often rated as a "classic" but it's something of a curates egg. A handful of weaker tracks that feel like throwaways alongside Beach Boys masterpieces like Feel Flows, the title track, Till I Die etc. Frustratingly there are a handful of songs recorded during the sessions that are absolutely better than some of the ones they included, particularly Dennis Wilson's work which he was holding onto for a solo album. The recent box set release reminded me of this so I created a playlist, as you do these days, and with these songs replacing the weaker ones Surf's Up would have been stellar.
Christ, even Mike Love's contribution was good....
What's your thoughts on the album? Favourite songs? Any other albums where you feel some of the outtakes would really have improved things?
