Four threads on BCB, so it must be true.

i always felt a bit sorry for him. i think he would have been much happier had he left the stones when wyman did.
he went from being the most inconspicuous stone to the coolest.
absolute legend.
RIP.

He got to do what he wanted to do his whole professional life for 60 years. Good for him.

I hope the story about him punching Mick's lights out and saying "I'm not your fucking drummer. You're my singer" is true.
We can leave all the 'will they continue' questions for another time. I'll just say he kept me interested in them for a lot longer than I probably would have been otherwise. No matter how bad or lackluster the albums got, at least there was always the caveat of "well, at least the drumming's great."
To say he was a musical giant would be an understatement. That 'greatest rock & roll band' stuff would have been unthinkable without him.

I saw them 4x over the years. As recently as two years ago. All of those times well past their relevance as a creative concern.
But Charlie was ALWAYS an absolute motherfucker on those gigs. Just the most jaw dropping swing, feel, etc.
If you appreciated that sort of thing, he'd really fill your heart up.
The records, naturally, speak for themselves.

Its interesting to note that the two best bands of that era, the Beatles and Stones, had the most tasetful drummers, albeit different in styles.

He didn't look well in that recent pic taken with his wife. I would have been surprised if he resumed touring but I wasn't expecting this.
