Now this is better!
I know A is the kind of 'pastiche' I usually rail against, but at least at the moment it's sounding more organic and natural to me than B. And maybe just because it sounds spirited, like they're applying their own personality to the stuff they love rather than clicking boxes.
I'm probably being unfair to B thinking that it's trying harder to make an impression. But I'm finding the vocal overwrought and the arrangement cluttered, so either way it's just not my thing.
A is also from LA, so I probably know, or at least have met, some of the folks involved. Not that that would matter if it sucked, it's just nice to know.

wow, I thought this was going to be a downybrook. I like Goldfrapp - or so I thought. it's a pretty nice track but A puts a tiger in my tank. it's among the best stuff this cup IMO.

An interesting slice of Neo-Soul, which should have been a minute shorter vs. a frosty dream stroll from Goldfrapp..All right, the first track is more unique..Vote A

Two fantastic picks. I wish the competition had had more of this kind of thing. Imaginative arrangements, great singing, real musical quality. The Goldfrapp track is full of sun dappled, drowsy sensuality and casts quite a spell. But I love the sound of A with its razor sharp drumming, full bodied mass singing and expansive string arrangement (and I can't tell you how rare it is to hear a great string arrangement on a modern record..this could be Richard Evans). I honestly can't choose, so I'll save my vote after I see which way the voting's going and try to even it up with my vote. The least both picks deserve is a point each.

Nice match indeed. A was a bit of a surprise, I had no idea what to expect and at first listen I couldn't get which era it was coming from. It's contemporary and probably worth keeping an eye on them. For now, the idea sounds good.
It goes against one of my fave acts of this century, especially when they show their softer side, more than the electronica dance they were known for a while. This is an excellent track from an excellent record. Sorry A but

I’m so far beyond my fellow posters, it seems. A is boring. It does not go anywhere, with a horribly mannered vocal, urgghhh!
B is ok. Pleasant. Not amazing but yards better.

intriguing match up. while i'm not as hard as G over them, i do appreciate both.
ultimately i think it's down to the vocals and i think i prefer goldfrapp over the jimmy somerville'esque of A.

More retro shenanigans, which is more interesting as there aren't many people doing this kind of early 60s revivalism. Almost as if they had to add the twattish electronic squiggles just to announce that they are modern, and it makes the track worse for it. Quite a good pick, even if it's not the kinda thing that I'd normally plump for. Don't know why they didn't end the song when they ran out of ideas though.
Never really did care for Goldfrapp, if I'm honest. And why would I lie? Great image on the cover, it's a pity she didn't try going down the folky aesthetic instead of all this over-produced schtick with the intrusive strings and crappy breathy vocals.

Oh yes, this is more like, great match! If only you'd both been in some of the weaker ties. I'm giving this to A for the discovery factor, cheers picker!

I like the odd thing by Goldfrapp but, like a lot of stuff by Air, it's mostly about the mood and the expensive old equipment used to create it. Oh, and the breathy vocals. Don't forget the breathy vocals.
Gabriels was doing that 'retro with a modern twist' (well how would YOU put it?) thing quite successfully. I suppose.

As Beevis probably once said, retro pisses me off. Don't like Goldfrapp, though so an unfortunate A

Both pretty good in their own way but I'm a sucker for breathy female vocals and orchestrals.
