the mimms type soul, is one i despise. too earnest and 'gospelly'.
i liked A, but not enough to explore further.

Tough one. Mimms is a nice pick, neither too obvious nor overly obscure, and A is Nick Talbot, an interesting character who died suddenly in 2014, cause of death (as near as I can tell) still undisclosed. This is very much in Ryley Walker territory, at least to my ears, and is making me want to hear more.
They both took some digging, and I wish I could vote for them both. Despite A probably being more in my wh__lh__se, I think B is ultimately the more pleasurable listen.

I get what skope is saying about Mimms but I like it. The Gravenhurst tune was OK, almost interesting. Can you believe that? almost interesting! in this cup!

There is something fragile and pretty about the accompaniment of A, particularly the finger picking guitar. But the song is a little too sombre and dryily dour for me to get too enthused over. Kind of like Radiohead in that sense. There is something quite generic about B. I feel like I've heard that intro on a 100 other records from the period. But it is beautifully sung. Two very well put together records which aren't quite my thing.
On reflection B

Like G, I got Radiohead vibes from A. It was, as the kids these days like to say "a whole mood". That said, it wasn't awful, but probably not the type of thing I'd get a ton of pleasure listening to more than once.
B is nice in a "let's get brunch here" kind of way, which is to say it's a bit dull.

A wasn't bad at all, particularly for something from the 21rst century, but I'm old, and like Mimms, so B

Damn, i really like both of these. A really piqued my interest to see what else i might like from this lot, and B is a great singer doing what he did so well. Gah, tough, but B.

Weren't Gravenhurst suddenly the indie/mainstream flavour of the month a few years back, got a lot of press then disappeared? I thought they were more aggressive than this, which reminds me a little of Iron & Wine before he went pop. Nice and introspective, well produced, actually has me a little intrigued to check out more.
B's a good voice doing something really formulaic, you knew everything the song was going to do within 10 seconds of it starting. Not bad, but not my cuppa.

Talbot) had a nice run as indie favs from 2004-2007 and some of his stuff is really good..Self described "Dark Sonic Folk" (He is more "Aggressive" in spots) ..He literally disappeared in 2014, the year he died..Worth checking out: Black holes in the sand ep Flashlight Sessions Fires in distant buildings The Western Lands And no, this is not my pick, so no vote stumping..lol..Just helpful information..

Nice guitar, some pretty vocals, too, but it doesn't really go anywhere. No idea what it's about, so maybe that's an unfair criticism.
TeenRayge was well on board with Garnett Mmimms and the Enchanters from Cry Baby onwards. The sound wasn't cutting edge, sounded a bit dated when it came out - the song was written by, and a hit for, the Impressions' Jerry Butler in the 50s, after all – but never mind, I love the testifying soul vocals of GM and especially the arrangement, with those wonderful girl voices floating around in the background. I found the whole thing, in fact, very reminiscent of the best early work of the Impressions. Of course it sounds a bit cliched now, but that's because so many other acts since have used it as a template. Back then it was simply gorgeous, and takes my vote today.
