I think we may have had this one before, but it's always interesting how he/they get a certain kind of music fan into a lather.

it's the sort of crap you, nev and flange cream their pants to, G.
are you sounding out your 'preluding' final choices?

I am fan but can also understand how some of their other tunes have become an irritant to some....
Probably a bit like Beautiful South in the sense hearing their stuff once in a blue moon is a buzz but not every day you know...
Ear-worms are called ear worms for a reason right....

Here's a picture of me with author/vocalist Michael McDonald taken a little less than two weeks ago. Lovely man, we talked about David Crosby. (And, yes - the song is an absolute hit. REALLY unconventional pathos in the lyric - guy thinks woman was the great love of his life, woman barely registers the guy/affair as a blip on her radar)

Annoyed the hell out of me when it came out - hard to say why, exactly, but it's sheer omnipresence did it no favors in that regard... that is, until it did, because eventually the song did worm its way into my heart (sort of).
I vote HIT, but there are a number of earlier (mostly pre-McDonald) Doobie hits I prefer.

Michael is an undeniable talent, but...yeah, I would agree that most of their best work (Pat and Tom songs) predates his participation. Things like "You Belong to Me" are difficult to muster a smile for.

I heard a long interview with him on NPR last year. He had some good stories. One of his stories is him writing What a Fool Believes. playlist.worldcafe.org/world-cafe-playlist-08-18-2020-michael-mcdonald/I know I bring up the Bay Area a lot, but the Doobie Brothers with Tom Johnston were a beloved band in the area and a mainstay on FM radio here. That Johnston left/was ditched ranked 8.0 on the area Richter scale. People may or may not know this, but Skip Spence had a hand in getting the Doobies started. Totally different bands - the Johnston/McDonald Doobies. I like that they've reconciled with Johnston. It was hard for me to get used to the McDonald Doobies, and didn't quite appreciate them at the time. My wife's cousin was married to bassist Tiran Porter. If you ever make it to Sonoma, drop by BR Cohn Winery. I think some conglomerate owns it now, but it was started by Bruce Cohn, the Doobies' manager. He made the Doobies' a shit ton of money by being one of the first bands to have a band jet so they could play more gigs. Every year, he used to have a Summer music festival the Doobies would play. www.winespectator.com/articles/sonomas-br-cohn-winery-announces-sale-to-vintage-wine-estates-51875

It's another that I liked OK until I had to learn it for a gig and realized that it had more going for it musically than I thought. It's a pretty cool chord structure.
And yeah, he has an unusual voice that it's easy to make fun of, but it's not like he's a bad singer or anything. Quite the opposite, really.

My wife's cousin was married to bassist Tiran Porter. Was she by any chance featured in the gatefold of Toulouse Street?

Well, I’m sorry to hear Michael McD is a nice guy because I’m voting “shit” due to the limited choices. Under different circumstances I would be respectful of craft, diligence & other fine qualities. I can’t possibly vote “hit” since the tune dogged my every step for long months. The song required a level of laid back mellowness that I was incapable of at the time. Envelope please... SHIT.

My wife's cousin was married to bassist Tiran Porter. Was she by any chance featured in the gatefold of Toulouse Street? No idea. My wife's cousins had much more glamorous lives than her family. One married to rock musician, one married to Christopher McDonald of Shooter McGavin fame and the other a race care driver. He had a really bad crash a few years ago, but is better now.

It feels rather mean spirited to login specially to vote 'shit' but I really didn't care for it(or any of their stuff) I'm hoping the final isn't stuffed with tracks of this ilk.
