Can we look into having a dislike button? I'd find it very useful. Cheers. No. There was one on a previous board I frequented and it caused all sorts of mayhem, which is why I think you're suggesting it, oh pothersome one. If you disagree with something or someone, tell them why, don't pin a flag on them.
Next!

He threw his toys out the pram, abused his admin privileges and then demonstrated no contrition over it at all. Hounded off? That's a bit ott. Having said that, I thought he did offer something to the board as a poster, both here and on BCB but he was also overly sensitive, rather earnest and humourless and I don’t think he understood BCB and, by extension, this board really. Not surprising given that he came to BCB from elsewhere but there you go.

I think "fit of pique" is the phrase you're looking for. He threw his toys out the pram, abused his admin privileges and then demonstrated no contrition over it at all. Having said that, I thought he did offer something to the board as a poster, both here and on BCB, but he was also overly sensitive, rather earnest and humourless and I don’t think he understood BCB and, by extension, this board really. Not surprising given that he came to BCB from elsewhere but there you go. Why the fuck should he 'show contrition'? He came on as a favour to us (John and me), and all he got for his troubles was a load of bollocks and mockery. Surely we wanted this place to be an alternative to or improvement on to BCB, rather than an extension of it. And speaking as someone who came here from elsewhere, do you think I also didn't 'understand' BCB? Why should we automatically assume that everyone wants to join in taking the piss out of everything? Where was your judgment in piling in to an obviously serious thread and taking the piss when you clearly didn't understand him? Don't you think shitting on someone's lawn then calling them oversensitive when they clean up the mess is something you should be contrite about? How are we supposed to get new blood, if indeed that's what's needed, if we don't respect new or occasional posters? How about a bit of contrition from you and Spoony and whoever else got outraged that you misjudged the situation then came all over prim about your 'rights', and 'abuse of privileges' when you got slapped down. You're a great poster, Dougie, but you really need to get over yourself about this, maybe stick to dicking about with people like me and John and the other diehards who are used to this sort of thing, and maybe, just maybe, we can get a more inclusive board.

Because he deleted some posts for no other reason that he didn’t like them on his thread. That’s the bottom line and as an admin that’s unacceptable and as users I think we could have expected some acknowledgement of that from him. Personally it felt like because of his work "behind the scenes" people were backing off, which is understandable, I guess but it stuck in the craw a bit, ken? I wasn’t expecting a public flogging but there was sfa. He then buggered off cos he was clearly pissed off and upset which suggests to me he might be a bit sensitive for a place like this. Whether he came on as a favour to you or John (how am I supposed to know this btw and why does that make any difference anyway? It’s not currency.) doesn’t change that. The posts in question were gentle ribbing directed at the article he posted. If he hadn’t deleted them others could maybe see that. Penk understood this and commented to that effect. That to me was a precedent and one that I didn’t like therefore I banged the drum a bit.
By extension I mean there were BCB cultural aspects which are naturally part of this place too given the vast majority of people here are BCBers (former or not) and some of that involves piss taking, irreverent humour, good (and occasionally bad natured) abuse and so on. There is less of the bad stuff here and that is an improvement on BCB but what me and G said on his thread was just some harmless poking fun at the po faced pomposity of the article. If he couldn’t handle that then I think that says more about him that it does me or G. Piling on? Shitting on someone’s lawn? Lack of respect. Ok!
He wasn’t a “new” poster either. He’d been on BCB for a while so he knew what the general craic was and compared with the more confrontational aspects of our former home this place is relatively mild and the posts in question were too. I was stunned when they were deleted because it showed a level of thin skindness that was really something.
Ahhhh "outraged". The word people sometimes use when they try and characterise those in question as over emotional and irrational. The over emotional and irrational response was Driftin's.
Anyway, this is boring and I'm off home for a joint.

I get that Ray likes Driftin' and is loyal to him, but the above is a bit rich. Whilst GB and I weren't blameless, neither did we do anything terribly out of order. He was too thin-skinned and OTT in his reaction. If I he wants to come back, I'm quite happy to extend the olive branch and wish him no ill-will.

I've had far bigger run ins and issues with posters in the past but have still engaged in perfectly sincere and pleasant chats with them about music and film too. Look at me and Matt Wilson or DD or Griff. If he came back and he posted something about a film I wanted to reply too I would as I have before. But...if you're gonna post something like that article then I find it bloody hard not to crack a few jokes. That's just my natural approach.

OK, you've both had your say. Let's agree to differ, and we'll bury it, but some of my points still stand, mainly the one that taking the piss out of somebody you know will take it in the spirit it was meant is one thing, but doing it to (relatively or completely) new people, or ones who have shown no inclination at all to join in the 'merriment', is another, and not something I would do, and in my opinion, is certainly no less blameworthy than someone deleting a few posts in a 'fit of pique'. Admins are posters, too, and needn't hold themselves to higher standards than those they administer.

We didn’t take the piss out of somebody.
We poked fun at the names of some of the bands in the article and the general pompous tone

We didn’t take the piss out of somebody. We poked fun at the names of some of the bands in the article and the general pompous tone OK. I didn't see it, and I'll take your word for that. Maybe Robbie saw it differently. We al live in different worlds, after all.
I still think you're making a big deal out of what was, by any standards, pretty much nothing. I'm certainly not going to spend another word discussing it.
Let's get back to the present, and the good stuff.
