footwearTrainers, walking boots, wellies, slippers, slip-ons, hockey boots, white buck brogues, blue suede lace-ups - whatever out of them (and a few others) is appropriate to the weather and what I'm doing accessories (watches, hats etc)I won a lot of hars of one kind or another, but again only tend to wear them for the weather - floppy white cotton numbers when gardening in the sun, flats caps on windy days in spring or summer, Thinsulate beanies in cold weather. Gloves in the winter and often in the spring and autumn because of Raynauds. Own, but rarely wear, a large number of flamboyant scarves and neckties, and a fair few waistcoats. jewelleryI have had a fair few rings in my time, but tend not to wear them any more, currently just a signet ring on my right little finger No other jewellery clothing (favourite brands, style etc)Casual trousers (not jeans, allergic to indigo dye), coloured Ts, cotton or linen shirts, all of them bought from charity shops, apart from the ones I've had for a quarter century or more, so no branding. Something similar, but shabbier, for gardening. A few winter sweaters, wool and/or silk, a realy fine long cashmere cardigan, nothing Vegan I'm afraid. The only branded things I get are Sloggi underpants and some really warm hard-wearing winter socks (Raynauds again) called Commando or something equally embarrassing. For outerwear, I have a few leather jackets and one leather coat (charity shops again), a couple of light showerproofs and a very warm duvet-style coat with a fake-fur-lined hood. grooming (hair, facial etc)As I may have mentioned, I haven't had a haircut since 1988. I tie it up at the back or on the crown of my head if I don't want it flapping around my neck. Apart from an ill-advised moustache for a few months in my late 20s, early 30s, always been clean-shaven. These days, I also trim my eyebrows so I don't look like a blond version of Denis Healey. My body hair looks after itself. how would you dress to impress?I wouldn't. As you may have gathered from my answers here and elsewhere, I pay little heed to what people are wearing, and have little respect for those who do otherwise. I think I'm impressive enough in person for anyone I'm likely to meet in my highly restricted lifestyle, but in the unlikely event I would need to impress some shallow oik for some reason, I'd probably put on a clean shirt, and if I wanted to impress them with my oddness, dip into my dress-up clothes

footwear
I've 3 pairs of smart oxfords (2 black, 1 tan), a pair of leather desert boots, a pair of chukkas and a pair of chelsea boots. I also have several pairs of Superga trainers. I don't need any more shoes.
accessories (watches, hats etc)
A Panama Hat for the summer. I did have a Samsung Galaxy Watch but lost it over the holiday annoyingly. I'm not really interested in watches. Oh a pair of Persol sunglasses. For my suits I have a range of cufflinks and lapel pins, some of which are Tintin-oriented. Nothing lavish, it's all meant to be discrete.
jewellery
Apart from my wedding ring nothing. I've really never seen the appeal of wearing necklaces, wrist things etc. They always look a bit gaudy in my opinion.
clothing (favourite brands, style etc)
No real favourite brands. I have a few Lacoste polos and a couple of Luca Faloni linen shirts. I've found a company called Spoke that do really nice chinos and jeans - very well made. Expensive but they fit really well. I like Wax London, Old Town and Universal Works for various things. Also looking forward to my Frahm Jacket in October. I've finally got to the point where I am capable of taking care of my clothes and make informed decisions about what I buy in order for them to last, rather than haphazardly buying stuff like I used to and then not wearing it.
grooming (hair, facial etc)
I have my hair cut once every 4 to 5 weeks. Haven't shaved off my beard in nearly 20 years now apart from 6 months or so in 2008, but trim it quite finely every 3 or 4 days. Use Penhaligons for after-shave, along with Olverum facial oil, which I hope keeps it fresh looking.
and finally:
how would you dress to impress?
"You can judge a man by their shoes". It's perhaps a little unfair, but it does ring true I think. Good shoes are VITAL, well fitted trousers, good choice of colour and the odd fizz of what the Italians call "sprezzetura", which I believe is "the art of looking relaxed and unconventional without thinking too hard about it". For example, the FIAT boss Agnelli used to wear watches over his suit sleeve, or wore boots with suits, the tongue splayed.

footwear Sneakers everywhere in the Summer. Sturdy Winter boots for, well, the Winter. accessories Only a tuque in the Winter. Otherwise, nada. jewellery Only a thin, fairly long silvery chain around the neck. Found it in my mom's stuff when clening out and I have kept it and wear it as a worthy memento. clothing Jeans, blue or black. Fairly loose for telecommuting and fitter for going out and about. Tops are a variety of t-shirts, white, grey or black, and/or a dressy-ish long sleeved shirt depending if there's a/c where I'm going, if I need a pocket.... grooming Have left my beard alone, other than daily manual trimming for about a year, year and a half now. It's about the fifth time I try and this is basically the first time I actually like the results. My hair has always been relatively short all my life. My ears did disappear for a bit in the 70's but that's basically it. Now, cuts are at about every 4-6 weeks depending. dress to impress? I do have dress pants that I can wear but the last time I wore any was for my mom's funeral 3 years ago. I didn't dress to impress though, but out of respect. I am still about the same size as I was 40 years ago (tall and skinny) so, my wedding day suit, which I still have for some reason, still fits me to a T. And that's more than 30 years old now. I would still wear it for an occasion where there one. Not bothered really. And like Rayge, I still have quite a few neckties, many of them from the leather era. Some really ugly stuff which I love to gawk at once in a blue moon.

Like everyone doesn't already know by now. Now that I work remote, I don't dress up at all. footwearSneakers or sandals accessories (watches, hats etc)occasional baseball cap or visor jewelleryNone clothing (favourite brands, style etc)Comfortable grooming (hair, facial etc)I can skip shaving for three or four days. I like my hair short, easy to take care of, but during the pandemic I've gone 6 mos. or so without a haircut. and finally: how would you dress to impress?Don't have to do it very often - sports coat and slacks if I had to. Me, 364 days of the year. If it's cold, I'll don the occasional gray hoodie. My friends know it's cold out if I show up wearing pants.

I wear nicer clothes to keep my wife happy. I scrub up nicely, but what’s the point? Got a funky knitted shirt last week. I’m a jeans/shorts and T-shirt type. I’ve got some trainers (Nike Air Force One) that I wear to impress the youths. Otherwise, Dude shoes. No jewellery apart from the wedding ring if we’re going out. I bought some Marvel lids for summer.

I work for NY state, so I could come to work in a pillow case if I wanted to and nobody would blink.
Shoes - sneakers in warm weather, Docs in the fall, Timberlands in the long, long winter.
Accessories- none, really
Jewelry- wedding ring
Clothing - casual — golf shirts, bowling shirts,t-shirts (no writing ) all cotton. Basketball shorts in the summer, khakis and straight leg Levi’s the rest of the year
I would wear as little as I could without getting arrested to impress to emphasize my impressive physique.

Me, 364 days of the year. surely you don't wear that get-up for work? When I was going to work, I'd wear a short sleeved polo or button down, khakis and brown shoes. For the first 10-15 years of work, I'd wear a suit or sports coat and slacks. Tech changed the dress code on the west coast. The east is more formal, but not as much anymore.

Not meaning to derail the conversation, but something about changing dressing habits has actually saved a few lives, at least in my mind. And this is especially related, again in my mind, to 9/11.
You see, for a while before 9/11, people, women especially, had begun to wear more sensible footwear at least on their way to work. I certainly witnessed that in Boston and in NY. People would wear sneakers or comfortable walking shoes to work and change once at work.
Given the time of day the attacks took place at, just before 9:00 am, lots of people would still be wearing these sensible shoes. I can only imagine the difference between trying to work your way down 100 floors in the stairs and/or running down the street in heels or dress shoes. Would have been even worse, nay unfeasible for many.

simple questions regarding everyday wear.
footwear - During summer months it's mostly sneakers - classic Adidas or Nikes, as plain looking as I can get, and in colder months it's leather boots, usually brown - I currently have a pair of LL Bean moccasin-style boots.
accessories (watches, hats etc) - In the summer I sometimes wear a plain black trucker cap, or a Mexican straw cowboy-type hat and in winter a black wool watch cap if it's cold enough. No other accessories other than a scarf and gloves in winter.
jewellery - Plain silver band on my left hand.
clothing (favourite brands, style etc) - I change my name to John Linen during summer months, 'cause it's become my fabric of choice. I bought a bunch of nice linen long-sleeve shirts in various solid colours at Uniqlo last year and rotate through them during the week. I wear slim-fit blue jeans to work, and plain shorts around the house if it's hot enough. In he fall and winter I only really change my shirts to no-iron casual dress shirts (I like the ones that are cut to be worn untucked).
grooming (hair, facial etc) - Mostly clean shaven, but I'm too lazy to shave every day, so I usually just do it Mondays and Thursdays. Hair gets cut every five weeks or so in a Dave Hill style.
and finally:
how would you dress to impress? - I don't need to change anything.

(Linen is great btw. Love it but I don't have any )

footwear Doc Marten boots, Converse All-Star boots, Converse One-Star shoes. accessories (watches, hats etc) I wear a watch, it's an Accurist, proper blokes watch. No hats or fancy stuff. jewellery Apart from the watch I wear a gold signet ring on my right hand, which belonged to my Dad and a silver Claddagh ring on my left hand, which I bought in Galway a few years ago. clothing (favourite brands, style etc)Fred Perry polo shirts, Ben Sherman shirts and polo shirts, band tee-shirts, mainly 70s punk bands, slim or straight jeans (never skinny ) grooming (hair, facial etc)crew cut, no.2 on top, no.1 back and sides, no gel or "products". Being home office all the time with the pandemic, I probably only shave once a week, but when I get back to visiting customers again it will be clean shaven again. how would you dress to impress?I'm a bit past all that shit now. I dress how I feel comfortable. When working I normally wear suits.
