He's singing about the size of the turds he drops.

Parts of it remind me very much of Oar - especially something like the woozy 'War In Peace'. I love that record. And of course there's CSNY and the Grateful Dead in there, both of whoM I've got mixed feelings towards (surprised G digs it given his antipathy)
I do like 'Orleans'. And musically it sounded great. It's just...
I'll listen again later.

towards the Dead and Neil Young! It doesn't much remind me of either of those. And I quite like some NY, it's just I don't rate him as highly as most. The Crosby album is more like post folkie Buckley I think. Maybe a bit rockier on a couple of tracks, but it has that same vibe of jazzy ambience, unusual chord progressions, very textured etc.

If I skip 'Cowboy Movie' and the last track it starts to approach 'enjoyable'.

I wonder if there is some sort of schism in approaches between Oar and If Only ? IF Only also came out when the Airplane and Dead were doing their various solo projects, whereas Oar was before them and originally intended as demoes.

I really like Cowboy Movie. It's got a great vibe with that choppy, chugging guitar and Crosby's bluesy vocal. It reminds me a lot of 'Almost Cut My Hair' which I also love.

It's similar also to 'Down By The River' - jamming on Em/A - but it stands out on the album to me because it's so aggressively played

The new reissue includes an alternate mix with Young playing lead, so I doubt he was too upset about it!
