so wrote dave marsh. he also wrote that it was 'the only time McCartney approached the "drive and density" of his tenure with the Beatles'. i think that's a pretty good write-up of the song.
as someone who never really rated the solo beatles output or overplayed it, i must admit i find it quite joyful. absolutely brilliant guitar riff too.
i think this rehearsal version really adds some sparkle.

There's something a bit silly about the way they shout Jet all the way through. I don't mind it, but it's pretty slight.

That clip is amazing.
The drumming is cosmic man, everything is so TIGHT.
McCartney just leading them with his musical charisma, look at his face he knows he's got it (Im saying this as a someone who thinks the Beatles are overrated).
Wonderful stuff.
Wow music can heal you know.....

The woo-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo-oo bits are a little bit naff and I could do without that "this is what the future will sound like" keyboard solo (cheers Linda!) but it is one of his finer post Beatles moments. There is an irresistible Macca-showing-how-it's-done power pop efficiency and energy to it.
Of course every time I hear it I can't help but recall Partridge falling off the bed like a complete twat.

It's a decent tune for a solo Beatle but I wouldn't actually buy the album, it didn't offend when it came on the radio until some thing better came on.

a bit too ambient and jazzy for my taste. i prefer the more 'rootsy' jet.
