the arrows is fuzzed out wah-wah psych heaven. who couldn't like it?
i quite liked B. possibly my favourite contemporary pick of the cup. i'll probably investigate further. a nice modern twist on a wyrd folk vibe.

A is probably a bit too long, but it's just unhinged enough. B is fine, but seems to be trying harder to make an impression.

I've struggled with this but in the end gone with A which could have done with some pruning.
I didn't mind b but it's a bit too knowing and clever for its own good.

Discovering all the Davie Allan/Mike Curb studio instrumentals was a real breath of fresh air for me and I've enjoyed just about all of the ones I've heard. This one though was just a bit too much for me, too much feedback and too long.
I can see why B may seem over fussy for some. It feels like it could do with a little prune as not all its detours are successful, but I really like that main musical motif and its overall swirling mysteriousness. This is how to do neo psych.

Bump! We're back down to earth after the heavenly bliss of Alcest. Honestly, at some point you must listen to something else surely? I don't understand. I like fish n' chips, but I don't want it every day for breakfast dinner and tea. The feedback is nice, but I could do without whoever is letting the balloon down. 6 minutes though? You're havin' a laugh.
Well, this is very retro with a name shouting for attention like a toddler in quicksand. I don't like the studied recreation of a point in time that wasn't particularly interesting for me anyway, though the singer occasionally seems to try doing a bit of Michael Stipe for some reason. Shite. But not A shite.

The Arrows choice is WAY too long and doesn't do enough. Actually you know I've never heard anything noteworthy by these fellas - they always sound like one of those bands you get in a Roger Corman film from 1966, except after an accident where they all lose the use of their limbs.
B is interesting enough to win here

A had an interesting riff at the start and then some nice noise going on, and on, and on, and on ....yeah, you bought a new gear, I got it. Next.
About B, well, I like trying, and I like clever, and most of all I like songs when they are well done, as it's the case here. No idea it was contemporary, it didn't sound like that to me, but in any case I liked it a lot.

Damn, B is like a refreshing ginger ale after the frantic OTTness of A. I liked the first, but 2 mins would've been fine. B is an enjoyable tune and another interesting new one, nice.

I see Mike Curb's name on this, and I always thought he was a bit of a cunt. But anyway, he's not playing on this. I had a vague notion that the Arrows were a surf guitar band, and I'm not so keen on the fuzzed out version of his guitar, but the harp was nice and there was plenty of variation to keep me listening through the six minutes. It didn't really excite at any point, but a decent listen.
Another never-heard-of that sent me running to wikipedia - but they're not there. On to Google. Surprised to read that they are contemporary - I heard a nice pastiche of some SF bands of the late 1960s. Again, enjoyable but no spark.
A difficult choice, but I'm edging towards A
First tie of five in this cup that I actually like both tracks. Cheers, pickers
