I still get Mojo and reading this month's album reviews with Bowie on the cover, I probably didn't recognize 90% of the artists and bands whose albums they were reviewing.

They came after Bowie, probably.

They came after Bowie, probably. It was kind of an eye opener because I like exploring new music and new artists, and while I'm not as hep as the kids, I thought I was fairly in touch with new artists. Seems not.

I find the major magazines mostly trawl the middle ground (reasonably major label new artists), and that isn't where anything exciting emerges. Have you found any college radio in Eugene ?
And I hate saying this but the UK's scene is too insular at this point, and that is mostly makes Mojo's, Uncut's etc., reviews sections.

i think shindig! has stolen mojo's thunder.

The only college radio is the local PBS station affiliated with the local community college. They play some jazz and Grateful Dead related jam bands and Americana on the weekend. The only music stations are either Mexican music or metal, and what I mean by metal, are the same Bad Company and Van Halen songs played over and over again. It's pretty bad. In the Bay Area, I had three college or indie radio stations I could listen to - KPFA out of Berkeley, KFJC that played alternative and avante garde and KUSF which played harder alternative rock and punk. Guess I'll have to subscribe to Sirius again or look around tunein, a radio station app.

Mojo, and Uncut have always been middlebrow and conservative I think.

Maybe they’re just trying to hang on to their established audience…which tends to be folks like us
