I do love the way it goes between cheery and melancholy. As with a lot of the stuff from this era, the highpoint for me is when Lennon takes the bridge solo. It was a great focusing thing when he would do that, as on "Yes It Is" and "This Boy".

I love the bridges in "Yes It Is" and "This Boy", but the (second?) one in "I'll Be Back" is not one of my favorites. I think it breaks the spell of the verse and doesn't fit with the rest of the song.

Skope I gave this a listen a few times and I have to say I was not impressed.
It is a like a rough version of "And I Love Her" perhaps this is what we know as filler to spread out the album.
When I was in my teens I went through a phase listening to the Beatles but I have to say I am not a fan. It would however be silly to say they have not been influential on the development of Western popular music; this is certainly not one of those songs that supports this theory.
It's very basic musically and I don't think the medody soars or captures you in and while there is an aural hypnotism to the guitar fill it can't save the track from mediocrity. Listen to this and then listen to the Bee Gees "How Deep is Your Love" and hear the difference in terms of harmonies and melodies and arrangement, it's miles ahead of this track, perhaps we could argue it wouldn't exist without the Beatles but I don't like putting music and judging it in a historical context.
