Following on from the met thread.
If you say you're not you get accused of being insincere or some kind of snob. But there are many of us who just find it all vacuous and uninteresting. Or are there?

I guess it depends on how you quantify "interest"?
I think the calibre of celebrity has declined precipitously over the years. People like Richard Burton and Elizabeth Burton for example, who were mere actors, look like titans compared to those of today. Look at the people on the Dick Cavett show 50 years ago and now and it's all too clear what is happening.
To be honest, whilst I would never buy a magazine like Hello!, I might take a sneak look of it in a waiting room or if it was free on a train/plane. There is something, a little something about "the life of the stars" that does pique my interest a little.
However, the likes of Meghan and Harry, or Kim and Kanye, in awful houses with awful interior design, makes me gag a bit.

I think it's interesting. Especially nowadays in the age of Tik Tok and YouTube. How does a doofus like Jake Paul become a celebrity?
He's athletic, good looking, but he's such a putz.

I think that's at least partly because footage of the great stars survives, but for every Taylor and Burton there was a Uri Geller or a David Nixon. They were huge in early 70s Britain and they were just as rubbish as Piers Morgan or Meghan. We tend to romanticise the past a little. But....yeah, who have we got today? It's mostly female pop stars, isn't it? Maybe they have less to SAY and more to SHOW? maybe that's what's going on in 2021. Look at Gaga! I think she's a true star. I love to see what she's wearing. She makes serious efforts to look amazing. But I wouldn't care to hear her views.

it is what it is. sometimes you give a shit and sometimes you don't. AOC with "Tax the Rich" across her surprisingly magnificent backside is the most fun I've had looking at "fashion" photos since Bjork was at the Academy Awards.

Wait a minute, you mean to tell me that says "Tax the Rich"?!?? Goddamn, I thought it was divorce advice for Phil Collins, and it said "Fax the Bitch".

Interest is a bit of a strong word, but a passing interest yes. Not so much in what they have to say, bar a few exceptions, but more how they turned out and where they went next after having been on my radar during periods of my life, through tv, film, music, books, journalism etc.

Nothing to do with snobbery. I'm just not interested in the whole culture: the meaning of the word celebrity has changed though, over my lifetime. I'm interested in the lives of people who have have made or done things that have connected with me, but generally in a historical sense, and I'm not remotely interested in gossip about clothes, marital discord, galas, reality shows, the whole sleb shizznit

No, I'm not in any way at all interested in celebrity. I used to laugh along with everyone else at the z-list participants celebrity reality TV shows, but then I realised I actually don't know who actually is famous these days, unless they're actually top A list megastars like Tom Cruise or Madonna or someone. And I'm not interested in them, either. I've read the odd musical biography, I admit, Phil Ochs, TG, Joy Division, etc, but generally I'm not interested in the person, more the way the work was crafted, or the context of the art, kinda thing. I mean, they're all just people, doing stuff. Good on them, but I don't actually want to know anything about them.

I always wonder about the functionality of wearing those kinda dresses? Just how big are the seats at the awards? Do they book their taxi an hour early to give them time to get in to the car, or hire a 7 seater for the room?
