I've just had a quote of £350 from a surveyor so I've told them to go ahead and look at the flat I mentioned and deliver a Home Buyer's Report. If they say it's in a reasonable condition (and I'm mostly concerned about damp/flood risks) then I might make an offer before Xmas. I'm really in limbo now, living in a hotel, looking for work somewhere. I need to get out of the house in Whitehaven soonish so this old couple can move in, but I have a shitload of things to sell/give away/dump/put in storage. And then I could end up anywhere. It's not great, but things should be better in a few weeks - I think! Sounds like a lot of stuff going on. Do you really want to add buying property to all that mess/

It's actually a priority. I need a place to live.

That too!
I might not live there immediately. I can't stay in my hometown now 'cos there's no work for me there. But I need a base, somewhere for the future. And maybe I'll stay there a while until I rent it out. I don't know.

It's not teaching, but have you ever considered this. . .?

A 'proceedable offer' was made on the flat recently - I heard from the estate agent today.

I saw this place today. The old woman who lives there is lovely, we talked for an hour. www.zoopla.co.uk/for-sale/details/47341863If it's still on the market when we've sold this place, I might make an offer. It's a fucking LISTED building!

Oh, and Dougie - I applied (can't believe you have to do that) for the flat I looked at in Stockbridge and they got back to me today to say they'd accepted my offer (after credit checks and so forth). But I think it's way too much - £1,100 a month plus bills and council tax comes to something like £1,400!
So I'm looking for places in cheaper areas. How's Gorgie (think I might have asked you this already)?

I like this new one. Backyards aren't English folks' things are they? Except for Ray.

I saw this place today... That looks pretty nice. Does it have a flat on the top floor you could rent out?

The place really is too big for me. But it's not much more expensive than much smaller places. And she said she'd probably take less than the asking price.

I like this new one. Backyards aren't English folks' things are they? Except for Ray. I don't think they're unusual. Your classic old Coronation Street houses all have backyards. Not sure how many of those are still around. Probably quite a lot.
